Edward Gooding, 67

SHELDON, Ill. — Edward Gooding Obit PicEdward L. Gooding, 67, of Sheldon passed away on Monday, December 12, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital in Lafayette, IN.

Ed was born March 17, 1944 in Watseka, a son of Maxwell A. and Genevra Nagele Gooding. He married Marsha A. Lee on June 22, 1968 in Kentland, IN and she survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Patrick (Lesley) Gooding of Champaign and Michael (Kara) Gooding of Chandler, AZ; two brothers, Richard (Diana) Gooding of Sheldon and John (Tina) Gooding of Watseka; one sister, Anne (Dr. Philip) Zumwalt of Watseka; his mother, Genevra Gooding of Watseka; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jacob and Audrey Gooding; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Mr. Gooding served in the U.S. Army and was a lifelong farmer in the Sheldon area. Ed was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kentland, IN, Sheldon Alumni Association, Watseka American Legion, Cooperative Extension Council and Clifford Bury Scholarship Committee. He served on the Iroquois Memorial Hospital Board, St. Joseph Church Council, Sheldon Unit District 5 School Board and was an Ad Hoc Committee member for the EON Windfarm Project. Ed was inducted into the IHSA Friends of Basketball Hall of Fame. He was the Sheldon Representative at the Career Center and the Drainage Commissioner for Sheldon Twp. He was the Sheldon High School Boys Basketball Scorekeeper for 40 years.

A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. (CST) on Friday, December 16, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kentland, IN. Fr. Rob Bernotas will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Kentland, IN with military graveside rites by Watseka Amerian Legion Post #23 and Iroquois Co. VFW Post #7450.

Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 p.m. (CST) on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka with a Rosary being held at 3:00 p.m. (CST)

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kentland, IN, Iroquois Memorial Hospice or Sandra J. Schulze American Cancer Society Hope Lodge.
