PARIS - Charles J. "Sonny" McDaniel, 78, of Paris, Illinois, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Paris Community Hospital, where he had made his home for nearly four years.
He was born May 15, 1933, in Liberal, Kansas, the son of the late Owen "Pidge" and Floris (Clapp) McDaniel. He married Pat Good on July 23, 1960, at Chrisman United Methodist Church in Chrisman, Illinois.
In addition to his wife of nearly fifty-two years, he is survived by a son, Keith McDaniel of Marshall, Illinois; two precious granddaughters, Marlice McDaniel of Palm Harbor, Florida, and Monica McDaniel of Denver, Colorado; a great-grandson who brought him much joy, Cruze Candia; a sister, Donna Butler of Berryville, Arkansas; two nephews, Rick (Cheryl) Butler of Wylie, Texas, and Brad (Amy) Butler of Champaign, Illinois; a brother-in-law, Bert (Lucille) Good of Charleston, Illinois, and his three daughters, Judy (Chuck) Rutan of Trophy Club, Texas, and Janet (Jack) Menser and Linda (Ken) Strange both of Charleston, Illinois; an uncle, Charles McDaniel, Jr. of Paris, Illinois; and many cousins, along with a host of good and special friends. He was preceded in death by a niece, Vicki Butler.
Mr. McDaniel graduated from Paris High School in 1952 and enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly thereafter. After two years in the service, he came back home to farm with his father and uncle. He farmed for nearly forty years before retiring in 1994 and moving to town. He will be remembered as a very hard worker who strove to get things done quickly. Sonny enjoyed playing cards, bowling, going out to dinner with friends, and going on short trips.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the nurses, CNAs, housekeepers, and staff of Paris Community Hospital who have become a special second family these last several years.
For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Grandview Cemetery Association Maintenance Fund.
