Joseph "Joe" Jacob Bellendir, 78, of Sterling passed away at his home on May 8, 2014. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Tennant Funeral Home with Vigil and Rosary Evening Service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Rev. Wojciech Gierasimczyk celebrating. Interment will follow at RiversideCemetery.
Joe was born on May 7, 1936, in Iliff to Alexander and Susan (Monheiser) Bellendir. He attended elementary and graduated high school in Iliff. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lucille Marshall on May 18, 1957 at St. Catherine of Siena in Iliff. They were married for 45 years. Joe worked mostly in construction owning Bellendir Construction where he worked with his brother "Lorney" and for NW Transport until retirement in 1999. He was a lifetime member of Sterling Elk's Lodge #1336. Throughout his life, Joe enjoyed camping and fishing with family, brothers, and eventually his grandkids. He loved being around family and playing card games. He was a big sports enthusiast coaching many girls' softball teams and watching the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. Over the last several years, home was where his heart was having his family congregate there and laughing at his grandkids play kick ball in his backyard.
Joe is survived by his son, Rodney Bellendir and wife Sandy of Broomfield; daughters, Karen Yost and husband Dennis of Torrington, WY, Jodene Boerner and husband Larry of Sterling, and Terri Johnson and husband Chris of Henderson, NV; grandchildren Jeffrey Bellendir and wife Celia of Long Meadows, MA, Megan Luebke and husband Greg, great-grandchild, Kaylie Luebke, Matthew Bellendir and Jacob Bellendir of Broomfield, Michael Yost of Torrington, WY, Joseph Boerner of Haxtun, Emily Andersen and husband Randy of Northglenn, Erin Boerner of Sterling, Hannah and Ryan Johnson of Henderson, NV; sisters, Catherine Bellendir of Sterling and Annie Fowler of Northglenn; sister-in-law, Willie Bogie and brothers-in-law, Jerry Marshall and wife Nancy, Allan Marshall, and David Marshall and wife Judy; numerous nephews and nieces; special friend Don DeSoto.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou, granddaughter Kailey Bellendir, parents, Alexander and Susan; brothers, Anthony, John, Alex, Pete, Jake, Andrew, George, Adam, Steve, Phillip, Lawrence, Robert; sister Mary Loos. Memorials may be made to the Joe Bellendir Memorial Fund in care of Tennant Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751.
