I also knew Mrs. Berkowitz from Southeast High School( class of '68) . Occasionally I would see her out in front of her house and stop to visit. She was very much a lady who commanded respect from all who knew her. I also had occasion to see her at Village Shalom when my mother in law was living there before she passed on. She was always a cheery ray of sunshine. I am so sorry for your loss.

Ms. Berkowitz was one of my first teachers at Southeast High School who exhibited a genuine interest in my education. And Ms. B, please forgive me for not picking you up for the 30th reunion of the Class of '62.

I,too, was a student in Mrs. Berkowitz's Spanish class and also a member of the Spanish Club for which she was the faculty sponsor at Southeast High School. Over the years, I have thought of her often, wishing now that I had made the effort to go see her and to tell her how much I appreciated her. Her methods of teaching Spanish also helped me greatly with English grammar, etc. I continue to be fascinated by her long and full life, especially her travels. She was a great teacher and humanitarian.

Mrs. Berkowitz was my teacher at Southwest High School. She was extraordinarily tenacious and maintained just the right degree of spunk for all of us "witty" teens. God bless her for what she imparted. In spite of ourselves we LEARNED!

I too was taught Spanish (2 yrs) at Southeast by Mrs. Berkowitz. It doesn't seem to have been that long ago that I talked with her at the Waldo Library. We spoke of her career at SE. We also discussed her students and her following the career of Logan Vincent Cole. She told me to take her her home (which I did). We sat and talked a little longer in the drive way about her family and right before she went into the house, she turned and asked me, "Was I a good teacher?" To this I answered, yes you were. More teachers are needed like you today. Your mother made an impact on many students at Southeast High. May God bring you comfort during this period in your life.

I volunteered with Anita for several years at the Nelson Museum. She was always interested in everyone and everything. I so enjoyed talking to her - she was a unique person. So sorry for your loss, but what an intersting life she led.

Mrs. B kindly mentored me as a junior at SOUTHEAST H.S., allowing me to assist her in freshman English...this must have been in 1959-60. What a wonderful woman!

I enjoyed 4 years of Spanish with Mrs. Berkowitz at Southeast High School as did so many other students. I didn't appreciate her sense of humor until I was an adult (Ha!), but what a dedicated teacher. I am sorry for your loss but I see that she continued to lead a full life.

Mrs. Berkowitz was my Spanish teacher at Southeast high(1967-1969). Her class was always exciting. Being back in the building as an educator I think of her and those times as I pass her classroom on the second floor. A couple of weeks ago I decided to resurrect my Spanish by studying the language again. I can still see her in front of the class drilling us on vocabulary and testing us using her collection of Spanish records. Her memory will live on through that Spanish class.

My husband was taught Spanish by Mrs. Berkowitz at SOUTHEAST high school in the mid 1960's. He has some great stories to tell from her class, always enjoying her responses to his clowning abilities. He had no idea she taught so long at Southwest, also. Mrs. Berkowitz was a person who made huge contributions to the lives of the young people she taught. Her spirit lives on!

I am so sorry for your loss. I recently spoke of Mrs. Berkowitz regarding the Folk Dancing Club at Southwest High School. I was a Spanish student and a member of the Folk Dancing Club. I still remember some of the Russian dances and polka's she taught us. I admired Mrs. Berkowitz's spunky personality, and engery when she taught us various folk dances. I will always smile when thinking of Mrs. Berkowitz. You remain in my prayers. Southwest High '79
