Wallace Strader Obituary

STRADER, WALLACE E. "WALLY," 80, of Louisville, went to be with his Heavenly Father on February 7, 2011.

He passed away peacefully at Jewish Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 18, 1930 in Earls, Kentucky.

As a native of Muhlenberg County, his career started at age 17 with Malone Lumber Company in Greenville, KY. On January 2, 1958, after 10 years with Malone Lumber, he moved to Louisville to further his career becoming salesman and store manager for Home Supply Company, Inc., a division of the A. J. Schneider Companies. In 1968, he was named vice president-general manager for Home Supply, a position he held until April 25, 2003 when he retired after over 45 years of service.

He was active in the lumber and building trade organizations serving as president of the Kentucky Retail Lumber Dealers Association (1978) and he served on the board of the Home Builders Association of Louisville for many years.

He was a member of Shively Baptist Church for more than 30 years. He was a devout Christian; he sang in the choir, was a Sunday school teacher and worshipped with friends and family faithfully.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Lucy Strader of Central City, KY.

He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 43 years, Wanda Beatrice "Beatie" Strader; a son, Wallace H. Strader (Kris); four daughters, Lou Anna Osborne (Steve), Linda McGinity Jackson (Ben), Christi S. Strader and Tamara L. Lutgen (Mark); three grandchildren, Josh Strader (Kim), Kendall and Jake Lutgen; three great-grandchildren; his two sisters, Gerine Gray (Tommy) and Anna Davis; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Keith Carter and Dr. David Britt, as well as the professional nursing staff at Jewish Hospital.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 9, 2011at the Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be at noon Thursday at Shively Baptist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City on Friday, following a noon CST memorial service at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with visitation one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Shively Baptist Church, the American Heart Association (Louisville Chapter) or the Kidney Foundation of Kentucky in memory of Wallace E. Strader.

Beatie, Christi and family I am going to miss Wally and that infectious smile and a wonderful talent to sing. I enjoyed my time in the choir with Wally and times at church on Sunday and Wednsday. He will be missed by not only his family but by many of his friends and church family. God Bless you
