Fernand Cormier, Jr.
'The Fernz'

LOWELL -- Fernand "The Fernz" Cormier, Jr., 63, a lifelong Lowell resident, died peacefully Thursday, April 7, 2011, in the comfort of his own home with his loving family at his side, following a battle with cancer.

He was the beloved husband of Marie-Elaine Cormier of Lowell with whom he celebrated 43 years of marriage in January.

Born in Lowell on June 10, 1947, He was a son of Carmen (Lepine) Cormier of Everett and the late Fernand Cormier, Sr.
Until his retirement in 2010, Fern was employed by Raytheon as a lab technician for 43 years.

Fern absolutely loved to golf. He was happiest while on the golf course and was especially challenged by the course at the Woods of Westminster. He was well known for his excellent pitching skills while playing softball in a Centralville league. He was a talented gardener, and took pride in his rose garden. He will be sadly missed by his many friends that affectionately nicknamed him "Captain America."
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include a daughter, Kristine C. Cormier of Lowell; two sons, Kevin M. Cormier of Ayer, and Adam F. Cormier of Lowell; two granddaughters, Ashlee M. Cormier and Jordyn E. Capra; a sister, Priscilla Oyola of Everett; an aunt, Sr. Lucille Cormier of Holy Cross College, Worcester; his beloved Godchild, Hope A. Smith and her husband, Reggie; two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law; several nieces, nephews and many dear friends including his best golfing buddy, Mike Armstrong.

He was predeceased by his brother, Lucien A. Cormier, in 2009.

Dad, you have left me too soon and with so many things left undone. I have many fond memories with you from playing catch when I was young to golfing with you and everything in between. If I can someday become half the man and father you have been to us then I would have died a great man like you. Don't worry Dad, I promise to watch over the family, especially mom. I know your watching me, and I will make you proud....

From the days watching you pitch for The Banjo Pub, being team mates with Lull & Hartford and Raytheon, playing against you in Tyngsboro and trying to hit your friggin knuckle ball to listening to your fishing adventures with your Dad and Lou to playing a few rounds of golf with you over the past few years, one thing never changed. You did everything with a smile. You enjoyed each day and made the people around you a little happier by doing so. I am proud to call you my friend. I will miss you, but will always enjoy the memories.
