Hess, Gerald W.  
Hess, Gerald (Jerry) W. 1930-2015 Gerald (Jerry) W. Hess died February 21, in Marshfield, WI, at age 76 of complications of a lung infection. Gerald was born in Davenport, Iowa, in 1939. He was in Germany with his family, mother, Etta, father, Otto, and brothers, Gunter and Jurgen from 1939 to 1947. After the war, the family moved to eastern Iowa, and he attended University of Iowa. Gerald served in the Army in Korea and later worked for Abbott Laboratories. He lived in Illinois, Minnesota, and Washington State, and moved to Marshfield, WI, last September to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren. Besides his family and friends, Gerald loved the Chicago Cubs and Bears, nature, sports, wearing shorts (even at 10° F) and liberal politics. He had a soft spot for wolves and birds, good food and German beer, and had a secret liking for the Green Bay Packers discovered only after his passing. Survivors include his daughters, Johanna and Laurie, brothers, Jurgen and Gunter, sisters-in-law, Susan (Jurgen) and Pat (Gunter), nieces, nephew and grandchildren, Ben, Tess, and Theo. Hilker, Betty  
Hilker, Betty Jean Betty Jean Hilker, age 91, of Marshfield, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 21, 2015 at House of the Dove in Marshfield. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield. Rev Chris Schwanz will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday. Burial will follow the service at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Marshfield. Betty was born November 11, 1923 to Edward and Meta (Zeidler) Olstinski in Marshfield. She was a graduate of Marshfield High School. Betty and Reuben B. Hilker were joined in marriage on February 19, 1944 in Salina, Kansas. She worked at the draft board during World War II, and after starting a family, she became a homemaker. After her children grew older, Betty began working for JC Penney in Marshfield. Betty enjoyed reading, cooking, and taking care of her family. Betty is lovingly survived by her six daughters: Susan (James) Zappen of Clifton Park, NY, Karen (John) Bittrich of Marshfield, Nancy (Bradley) Hafermann of Marshfield, Linda (James Knobloch) Hilker of Cross Plains, WI, Debra (Craig) Parman of Beaver Dam, WI, and Sandra (David) Saether of Verona, WI. She is further survived by her grandchildren: Matthew Zappen, Gregory Zappen, David (Amy) Bittrich, Elise (Nathaniel) Taft, Tyson Bittrich, Heather (Brian) Conrad, Timothy (Carol) Hafermann, Peter Hafermann, Hillary Knobloch, Daniel (Annie Sokovich) Knobloch, Brayden Parman, Andrew Saether, Adam Saether, Kim Saether and Erin Saether; her great grandchildren: Gabrielle and Louisa Taft, Carissa and Andrew Bittrich, Ava Conrad, and Anna and Sara Hafermann; her sister, Jacqueline Holubets of Marshfield, and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Reuben in 1998, and her brothers and sister: Kenneth Olstinski, Raymond Olstinski, Edward Olstinski Jr., and Ruth Prust. Memorials in Betty's name may be directed toward Immanuel Lutheran School in Marshfield or Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Hannum, Mary J. Mary J. Hannum, 90 of Marshfield died peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Gold Horizon Assisted Living in Marshfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30am Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Marshfield with Fr. Eric Berns officiating. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7pm Monday at Rembs Funeral Home and again on Tuesday at the church until time of services. Mary was born on September 27, 1924 in Stratford to Joseph and Margaret (Baltus) Kaser. She attended St. Joseph's Parochial School in Stratford and Stratford High School. She was united in marriage to Troy V. Hannum on November 13, 1943 in Marshfield. Troy passed away on March 26, 1998. Mary was the oldest of 12 siblings and had to take care of them when she was 18 because her mother, Margaret died at an early age. She enjoyed family reunions, traveling, cooking, knitting, gardening, crafts and doing puzzles. Mary was involved in Our Lady of Peace Church activities and belonged to the Sweet Adeline's. She is survived by her children Michael (Mary Lou) Hannum of Marshfield, Carol (Kenneth) Fleisner and Shirley (Ronald) Bores both of Stratford; 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She is further survived by 2 brothers Daniel (Mardell) Kaser of Marshfield and Raymond Kaser of Nekoosa, 3 sisters, Valerie (Richard) Feddick of Forest Lake, MN, Mae Hoernke and Marjorie Wilcott both of Marshfield; one sister-in-law June Kaser of Tennessee. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson Mark Knoll, four brothers, Leonard, Alvin "Bud", Harold and Eugene Kaser, three sisters, Jeanette Moran, Phyllis Berryhill and Alice Liebel.
