Carl Tripp Obituary

Carl N. Tripp
1929 - 2014
Longmeadow
Carl Noel Tripp, 84, of Longmeadow, died at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield on April 11, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. He was born December 25, 1929, in a house on Pleasant Street in Fall River, Massachusetts, the eighth of nine children. His parents were Abby Susan (Alty) and George Edgar Tripp. He graduated from B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River and from the (then) Westfield State Teachers College, in Westfield, MA. Carl later earned a Master's Degree from the University of Connecticut. Carl served as an electronics technician in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. On November 24, 1956, he married Mary Patricia Manning, of Longmeadow, MA. Pat died in 1996. Carl was a teacher and elementary school principal for 32 years in the Town of Longmeadow, MA, serving first as a sixth-grade teacher at Center Street School, then as assistant principal there. He then became principal at the Norway Street School, followed by the Greenwood Park Elementary School, finally retiring as principal of Center Street School in 1992. His children are Thomas Manning Tripp and daughter-in-law Bettina Mak Tripp, Mark John Tripp (deceased), Stephen James Tripp and daughter-in-law Beth (Rubin) Tripp, Martha Louise (Tripp) Adeletti and son-in-law Stephen Adeletti, and Judith Patricia (Tripp) Nally and son-in-law Stephen Nally. His grandchildren are Allison Tripp, Emily Tripp, Benjamin Tripp, Meaghan Nally, and Nicholas Adeletti. There will be no funeral service and Carl asked that his ashes be returned to the sea, so he "can travel around the world." In lieu of flowers, Carl asked that his friends please make a donation to a charity of their choice.

Carl's passing marks a sad day in the lives of his professional peers in Longmeadow. He and I worked together as fellow school administrators in Longmeadow for many years--Carl as an elementary principal and I as Glenbrook Middle School's first principal. We valued each other's opinions and our administrative contacts were always treated professionally by him. Even in adverse circumstances his views were always positive and forward looking. In a phrase, his cup was never half empty---rather, it was always half full.

I was in Carl Tripp's first 6th grade class at Center school in 1959. We did not have male elementary school teachers back in the 1950's in Longmeadow. It was a big deal! He turned out to be a wonderful and caring teacher. Teachers often do not know how they influence the lives of the children they teach. I can say that 55 years later Carl still stands out in my memory as one of the best. My sincere condolences to his family.

RIP Uncle Carl. My condolences for Judy and all of the Tripp cousins and their families. I don't remember much about Uncle Carl, but I do remember the huge grin on his face and the room full of stuffed bears. I only wish I could have visited him more often to get to know him better.

With Love and Prayers,

Tom, Steve, Martha and families,
Your dad is remembered when anything "Scouting" brings to mind memories of the Longmeadow troop. He was an integral part of so many lives. We are all better for having known him.

Carl was "Grampy" to many more than his own family. We loved him. He taught us how to live the good life, with such devotion to his kids, grandkids and luckily for us, their friends and neighbors. We'll miss you Grampy! Thanks for all the wonderful times we shared! XO, Vonnie, Augie, Tara & Eric

Martha and family, so sorry to hear of your father's passing. I remember him as principal of Greenwood when I first moved to Longmeadow and then he was my nieces principal at Center School. He always had a smile on his face. He will be greatly missed.

Good bye Mr. Tripp!! It is hard to believe that 40 years has passed since our scouting days. What great times and memories I have of those days. We immitated your laugh when we were young, but in hindsight it was a laugh full of life and the love of life. Thank you for Tom, who was a great friend and fellow scout and who I have reconnected with in recent years. Thank you for Mark, who I remember as a bit of a clown but who got me through Mr. Slates Biology class with his insight and sharper understanding. He is missed. God bless and have peace !
