Jean Hoskinson Obituary

Jean Emily Darroch Hoskinson

Resident of Palo Alto

Feb. 1, 1922 - Nov. 21, 2011

After an extended illness, Jean D. Hoskinson passed away at her home in Palo Alto, California on Monday, November 21. Born in Listowel, Ontario, Jean was raised in Dayton, Ohio, where she married Glen G. Hoskinson, Jr., on October 14, 1944. During the next ten years, Jean and her family moved across the country, living briefly in Nebraska, Colorado, Montana, and Arizona before arriving in northern California in 1954. She would spend the remainder of her life as a Palo Alto resident.

Employed during her early adult years by the Dayton Daily News, Jean left the journalism field during her travels to concentrate on caring for her family. Once in California, and having invested the next decade in establishing a comfortable and stable home, Jean elected to re-enter the workplace. She was employed by Stanford University, working in secretarial positions in the Physics and Athletics Departments, from 1963 until her retirement in 1985.

Jean is remembered by her family and friends as a kind, generous, and thoughtful person who always had great empathy for those around her. Her family loved her dearly and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her brother Vincent Darroch, her children Glen Hoskinson III, Carol Millard, and Bruce Hoskinson, her grandchildren Tracey Lewis, Gary Ostrom, Jr., and Lauren Hoskinson, and her great grandchildren Cassandra and Michaela Lewis, and Megan and Tyler Ostrom.

A private interment for immediate family members at Golden Gate National Cemetery is planned. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in the name of Jean D. Hoskinson to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) or to the charity of your choice. www.rollerhapgood tinney.com.
