Elizabeth Smiley Obituary

Elizabeth "Jeanne Smiley" Oct. 3, 1925 - March 3, 2010 Former Palo Alto resident Elizabeth "Jeanne" Smiley, 84, died March 5, 2010, in Cupertino CA. Jeanne was born in San Francisco California in 1925 and was raised in Sacramento. She was a third generation Californian whose great grandfather came to Butte County in 1842. Jeanne graduated from McClatchy High School and attended Sacramento JC where she was a member of Sigma Phi Kappa, a Pioneer Day Princess, and an Art Ball Princess. She graduated from the New York Institute of Dietetics and retired from the San Mateo County Office of Education. She is survived by Steven Smiley and wife Carol, Constance McGonigal, Delphine Shanley and husband Ed, Cecelia Adams and husband Eric, Elizabeth Smiley and husband Ricardo. Seven grand-children: Able, Seth, Chris, Ronnie, Sarah, Alyssa and Sam and four great-grand children. Jeanne was an avid reader, loved animals, theatre and travel. She volunteered at Kaiser Hospital, Lucille Packard Children's Hospital, The Humane Society and worked election nights. When her children attended schools in Palo Alto she was also very active in the PTA and was awarded a "Lifetime Membership". No services will be held at her request. Donations may be made to "Best Friends" or charity of your choice. Thoughts or remembrances may be sent to 15487 Benedict Lane, Los Gatos, CA 95032.

Jeanne had wonderful stories: like flying in a plane as a child with Errol Flynn. She loved her family and friends so will be greatly missed.
