Nicholas Lucich Obituary

Nicholas L. Lucich, Sr.
June 16, 1927 - September 18, 2015
Nick died Friday in Modesto, California after a short illness.
He was born in San Jose, California, one of five children of Mary and Louis Lucich. His parents were both born in Croatia and met and married in Watsonville, California.
Nick met his wife of 64 years, Alice, at Santa Clara High School. They had a wonderful life together. They shared in the farming business, beginning in the Santa Clara Valley. In 1962 they moved to Patterson where they continued with apricot and cherry farming and packing.
Together they raised five children. In later years they enjoyed many trips in their motor home, fishing and traveling. They have been blessed with many friends and a large extended family.
Nick loved sports. He was an excellent basketball player at Santa Clara High School and played one year at Santa Clara University, before work called him back to the ranch. He was proud of the fact that for many years he held the obstacle course record at Santa Clara High School. Hunting and fishing with family and friends were also an important part of his life. He enjoyed many years of fishing trips and playing tennis with Alice.
Nick's Catholic faith was also important to him, from his days as an altar boy at Mission Santa Clara to his many years of support for Sacred Heart Church in Patterson.
Alice preceded Nick in death by three years.  Nick is survived by four children and their spouses: Kris and Dave Santos, Nick and Chris, Pete and Tammy, and Jim and Jane.  He was preceded in death by his son Steven. He also leaves behind six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, October 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 529 I St. in Patterson, Ca. A luncheon gathering will follow the Mass at Damasco's Restaurant at the Best Western Villa Del Lago, 2959 Speno Dr., Patterson (near Rogers Rd. and Sperry Rd. Intersection).
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Sacred Heart Church, 529 I St., Patterson, Ca 95363.
Interment will be at a later date with a private ceremony.
