Lula Davis Obituary

Lula Mae Carter Davis
Conway
Lula Mae Carter Hughes Davis was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior Wednesday, April 11, 2012.
Mrs. Davis was born in Longs, SC to the late Rev. J. Robert Carter, Sr. and Lula Hardwick Carter. She was a graduate of Loris High School in Loris, SC. Mrs. Davis retired from Aberdeen Textiles in Conway after 33 years of service where she served as a department supervisor. She was a long-time member of North Conway Baptist Church, Conway, SC. Mrs. Davis loved spending time singing praises to her Lord as a member of the church choir. She also devoted much of her time visiting shut-ins, cooking for church dinners, and participating in various ladies' groups. Lula Mae cherished every opportunity to use her gift of hospitality for Christian fellowship in her home. "Ma-Ma", as she was affectionately known by her family, most cherished the times spent loving and ministering to her children and grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by all of us. For many years, Mrs. Davis was an active member of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are her beloved children, Patsy L. Oliver (George) of Conway, SC and R. Curtis Hughes (Nancy) of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, George Oliver, III (Dawne) of Conway, SC, LuAnn McCants (Darren) of John's Island, SC, Scott Hughes (Lorrie) of Piedmont, SC, Betsy Lockaby (Shannon) of Fort Mill, SC; great grandchildren, Mattie and Carly Oliver, Darren and Gates McCants, Carter, Kailynn and McKenna Hughes, Brenna, Aiden, and Keegan Lockaby.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Davis was predeceased by her first husband, Claude Hughes and her second husband, Jack Davis; three brothers, Rev. Burroughs Carter, Manley Carter, and Robert Carter; five sisters, Stella Watts, Effie Boyd, Clarice Carter, Evelyn Todd, and Bobbie Watson.
Internment will take place on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Mt. Leon Cemetery, Longs, SC at 9:30 AM. Following a memorial service will be held to celebrate Mrs. Davis' life at North Conway Baptist Church 1608 Sessions Street, Conway, SC at 11:00 AM with Dr. Jeffrey Gaskins officiating.
The family would like to thank the very special staff and caregivers at Anderson Oaks Assisted Living along with those from Beacon Hospice for showing so much love and compassion to Lula Mae.
Memorials may be made to North Conway Baptist Church, 1608 Sessions Street, Conway, SC 29526.
