David Payne, born on December 12, 1956, in Battle Creek, Michigan, journeyed into eternal rest on October 26, 2025, at home in Augusta, Michigan surrounded by family.

A man of great character, David had an infectious sense of humor and could get anyone to smile, laugh and feel like part of his world. Those who had the pleasure of sharing moments with him recall a kindness that was as genuine as it was infectious, a lightheartedness that made every encounter memorable. He was charismatic and welcoming, a great man who always made time for others.

David loved watching NASCAR races, MSU games, Harley Davidson, the ladies, camping trips, hunting adventures, fishing, cookouts with friends and family with music jamming in background. His door was always open and always willing to help others anyway he could.

David cherished his time spent with his family and friends and is survived by his children:  Nikole Payne, Jennifer Payne, Jon Polen and Matthew Payne. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as his siblings Cecil & Jay Coats, Bill & Robin Payne, Tony & Teresa Payne and Maggie Payne; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Though he has departed from this earthly realm, David is reunited with those who have passed before him, including his parents David and Lela Payne; his son, Dennis Payne; and great-grandson, Kayden Bates.

As we reflect on the legacy of David Payne, let us remember his loyalty, kindness, love and fun that defined him, and the moments and memories that will forever be carried in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to call him family and friend. His memory will shine brightly and deeply embedded into the hearts and souls of those closest to him.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
