GORDON DICKERSON

DICKERSON, J. Gordon Jr., after 91 years as God's humble servant, died peacefully at Culpeper Regional Hospital on May 7, 2013 surrounded by loved ones. He was born July 7, 1921 to James Gordon and Mable Rice Dickerson of Amelia. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Nancy Boon Dickerson. He is survived by his daughter, Faith Dickerson and her husband, Brian Giles; granddaughter, Allison Bowersock and her husband, Tyler; his 'sweetie,' Susie Mountcastle; adopted grandsons, Edward Giles and Daniel Wolverton; and the bookstore cat, Tinkerbelle. His two careers were 37 years at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, which included building the Mount Pony installation, and another 37 years as owner of The Corner Shelf Bookstore. His service to his church and community was extensive, but he would most want to be remembered for his work with The Brotherhood of St. Andrew at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and their work with the Culpeper Food Closet; putting good books into the hands of the Culpeper community at The Corner Shelf; his work as the first chair of the St. Luke's Foundation which built the current St. Luke's School building; support of his granddaughter's education through her current doctoral degree; and joyous hours spent these last 10 years with "the gracious lady who allows me to keep company with her," Susie. The family will receive friends at Clore-English Funeral Home on Friday evening, May 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Culpeper on Saturday, May 11, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the St. Stephen's Restoration Fund or Culpeper Food Closet, both at 115 N. East St., Culpeper, Va. 22701, or St. Luke's Foundation, 1211 E. Grandview Ave., Culpeper Va. 22701.
