Sauls Funeral Home of RidgelandHelen Stevens Fell, age 82, passed away on October 11, 2025, in Plano, Texas. Born on September 27, 1943, to Harry W. and Sophia W. Stevens, she was predeceased by her parents, her husband John, and two brothers (Harry and Peter).
Helen was born in Pasadena, Texas. When the family moved to Neptune Beach, Florida, Helen was seven; she attended San Pablo Elementary and then Fletcher High School, Class of 1961. She graduated from Jacksonville University (JU) where she was a Fine Arts Music major with an emphasis in percussion. It was at JU where she met John Fell; they married in 1971. The couple moved to Savannah, Georgia and later to South Carolina’s Low Country. During this time, Helen earned her Master's degree from Georgia Southern. She finally retired from teaching in Beaufort. After John died in 2015, Helen continued to live in Seabrook and finally moved to Plano, TX, a few years ago.
Over the years, Helen played with the Jacksonville, Savannah, and Charleston symphonies. After moving to Plano, Helen joined the Allen Community Band in Allen, Texas, where she played tympani.
Helen is survived by her brother Edward Stevens, sister Margie Stevens, sister-in-law Deborah Fell Roper, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family extends their gratitude to Helen’s good friends Daphne and Veronika Varner, for their care and concern, which allowed Helen to enjoy returning to her Texas roots.
A graveside service will be held at Grahamville Cemetery in Ridgeland, South Carolina on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 11 a.m. The family requests donations be made to the Allen Community Band in Helen’s memory at https://www.allencommunityband.com/.
