Karen Cornelisse, a vibrant spirit and cherished member of the Grand Rapids community, departed this world on October 25, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on October 21, 1960, Karen was the youngest of six children and the beloved daughter of Marion and David. Despite facing the profound loss of her parents at a young age, Karen developed a resilience and zest for life that would define her journey.

A remarkable cook, Karen had a special touch in the kitchen, always whipping up favorite dishes that brought joy and comfort to family and friends alike. Her culinary talents became a cornerstone of family gatherings, where she proudly ensured that loved ones were well-fed and happy. Holidays with Karen were not just about food, but also about the warmth and laughter that filled the air, as they enjoyed the delicious meals crafted with love.

Karen was known for her adventurous spirit and boundless energy. Rarely did she say no to a new experience; her love for camping, traveling, and soaking up the sun at the beach were testaments to her enthusiastic approach to life. Her cherished moments spent sitting by the campfire with loved ones or lounging in her chair in the water highlighted her innate ability to embrace the simple pleasures that life offered. In recent years, she enjoyed escaping to Florida, where she reveled in new adventures that enriched her soul.

Her caring nature extended beyond her family to include her beloved plants, which she tended with devotion, creating her own little jungle of green. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome and appreciated, always encouraging kindness and understanding among those who crossed her path. Her laughter was infectious, her penchant for humor brightened even the dullest days, and she adored her kitty Angelica for nearly two decades.

Though her health took a turn for the worse, Karen faced her challenges with grace, accepting the changes that life presented her. She lived without regrets, deeply thankful for the time she spent surrounded by loved ones and the countless memories created along the way. Her enduring spirit and unwavering love will forever resonate within the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Karen is survived by her devoted daughter, Holli, and her two sons, James and John Paul. She also leaves her beloved granddaughter, Madisin, and her grandson, Brogan, whose lives she enriched with her love and encouragement. Her memory is lovingly carried forward by her sisters, Linda (Jim), Cheryl (Paul), her brothers Tom (Kim), and Al (Donna).

As we remember Karen, we celebrate a life filled with love, compassion, and adventure—one that will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to know her. She now joins her deceased family members, her parents Marion and David, and her brother Ric, where she will surely continue to bring joy to those around her. Rest in peace, dear Karen; your legacy of love and laughter will forever remain in our hearts.
