Karen Sue Crowder passed away from natural causes on April 13, 2023, at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah, having just turned 74. She passed away peacefully, left her earthly body, and joined her mother and father as part of her eternal journey.

She was born on March 26, 1949 at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona, to Walter Martin and Janice L. Crowder.  Her father was stationed at Luke Air Force Base at that time while serving in the US Air Force.

Karen was diagnosed with cerebral palsy because of a lack of oxygen during her birth.  She came into this world in an imperfect body and mind but was a true “fighter” as she survived and blessed the lives of those who loved and cared for her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter M. Crowder, in 1984, and her mother, Janice L. Crowder, in 1999.  She is survived by her brother John Crowder (Judy) and her four nephews, Jared (Rachelle), Justin (Anna), Jordan (Kellie), Jason (Kelsey) Crowder, and a niece, Jamilyn (Brody) Carlson.  She was the great-aunt to 19 of the Crowder/Carlson grandchildren.

When Karen was very young, she and her family lived in Geneva, Nebraska, with her grandparents, while her father was serving in the military in Alaska. Her family moved to Clearfield, Utah, when her father was transferred to Hill A.F.B.

It was while living in Clearfield that the very difficult decision was made by her parents to find professional care for her, as she needed 24-hour care. They had to turn their only daughter over to others, who took over the care of Karen Sue for the rest of her life.

Karen’s journey in this life included becoming a full-time resident of the American Fork Training School (now known as the Utah Developmental Center) when she was eight years old. However, it was 13 years ago that her life took a different direction as she moved into a special residential care facility in Orem, Utah, under the care of TURN Community Services.  It was there that she developed new friends, who even to her last days, were there to show her their love and support.

While at TURN, she was always involved in activities in the community, and even went on an overnight trip where she enjoyed being in the great outdoors.

Her family thanks those who loved and cared for her throughout her lifetime on this earth, as she lived as a true “celestial lady”.

A memorial/visitation will be held at the Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. Bountiful, Utah, 84010, on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM, with family and friends.

Interment will be at the Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 E. Crestwood Road, Kaysville, Utah, 84037, at 2:00 PM, where she will be laid to rest next to her mother and father.
