Larry Francis Butts, who was never entirely fond of his middle name until he learned it was chosen in honor of Francis (Frank) Sinatra, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025.

Born in Winona, Mississippi, and raised in Greenwood, Larry graduated from Murrah High School in Jackson in 1960 — during what he proudly referred to as its “glory years.” He went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1961 to 1968, a commitment he carried with quiet pride throughout his life.

Larry earned his bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University and later completed his graduate degree at Mississippi College. His career began as a pharmaceutical representative, and his entrepreneurial spirit soon led him to found his own medical supply company. Never one to stop learning or caring deeply about others, Larry later became a psychotherapist and co-founded Imagine Behavioral Health in Jackson, Mississippi — work that brought him great pride and purpose.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda Clay Garner; his sons, Stephen Butts (Carolyn) and Michael Butts (Janet); his stepsons, Paul Purvis (Christine) and Allan Purvis (Wendy); grandchildren, Taylor Butts (Jaycee), Riley Butts (Savannah), Trevor Butts, Oliver Trudeau, Logan Butts, Lynden Bishop (Brett); step-granddaughter, Georgianna Mott; and great-grandchildren, Levi, Magnolia, Aurora, and Xander. He is also lovingly remembered by his extended Purvis family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Larry found joy in painting, long talks with friends, bike rides, and spirited political debates. He was known for his quick wit, generous heart, and his ability to find beauty — both in people and in art.

Wanda and Larry shared 15 wonderful years together, full of laughter, travel, and love. Their adventures took them around the world, including a few unforgettable years living in Costa Rica. The friendships they made there remained close to their hearts long after returning home.

True to his sense of humor, Larry insisted on writing his own “funny version” of his obituary. According to him, he was immensely proud to have flown with Amelia Earhart — though he regretted having to eject from the plane on that last flight. He fondly recalled his days as the Mississippi State quarterback who led the Bulldogs to a national championship, and he considered serving as Vice President under Barack Obama to be his greatest accomplishment — followed closely by singing at Carnegie Hall (which, for the record, he actually did).

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Larry will be remembered with laughter, gratitude, and love — just as he wanted.
