Hanna Spyrydonivna Khmyz, age 84, of Khmelnytsky, passed away on October 26, 2025, in Biloxi.
She was born on May 5, 1941, in Tulchyn, Vinnytsia Oblast, Ukraine, to parents Spyrdon and Kylyna Martynayk. Hanna earned her bachelor’s degree in business. She dedicated her professional life to public service as the Head of the Organizational Department of the Regional Trade Administration.
Hanna was a woman of many passions and pursuits. She loved gardening, reading, continuing education while studying herbal medicine, yoga, art, history, and harvesting mushrooms. She enjoyed traveling the world, exploring forests, and collecting maps. Hanna believed deeply in self-improvement and lifelong learning, and she inspired others through her curiosity and enthusiasm for new experiences. Hanna loved and supported Ukraine dearly. She had a beautiful voice and used that to show her love for Ukrainian songs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Spyrdon and Kylyna Martynayk; her loving husband, Anatoliy; and aunt, Fedora.
She is survived by her children, Oleksandr Khmyz and Anionina (Bruce) Godfrey; grandchildren, Anatoliy (Lesia) Khmyz, Michael (Morgan) Godfrey, and Anna (Husein) Kushnir; and her four legged companion, Kira.
Services will be held at a later date.
Her family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude all the help and support they received during the evacuation of Hanna from Ukraine at its hardest times of the war. Also, to the staff of the Memorial Hospital Cancer team for their care, compassion, and successful fight to beat the cancer. They also thank the Saad Health Care team for assisting them during a difficult time to allow them the opportunity to spend extra time with Hanna that they will never forget.
