Marvilene Knox Obituary
Memphis, TN
Marvilene Ross Scruggs Knox, 91, of Memphis, TN passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Methodist Hospital Germantown. She was born March 24, 1925 in Memphis to parents William Ross and Goldie Marie Scruggs.
Knox attended A.B. Hill Elementary School, South Side High School, Southwestern College, and the University of Tennessee. As a young woman, Knox worked for Universal Studios, Emergency Crop & Seed, Corps of Engineers, and the Federal Housing Administration before becoming a full-time wife and mother. During World War II, she was a faithful volunteer at the USO. She was a lifetime devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the University of Tennessee, particularly Lady Volunteers basketball.
Knox was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 56 years, Dr. Robert Lee Knox.
She is survived by three sons, Stephen Lee Knox and wife, Sandra, of Osceola, AR; Russell Knox and wife, Gina, of Germantown, TN; and Dr. Robert Knox, Jr., and wife, Julie, of Murfreesboro, N; one daughter, Linda Cook and husband, David, of Memphis; six grandchildren, Megan Brick and husband, Josh, of Gautier, MS; Halle Knox of Germantown; Olivia Knox, of Nashville, TN; Nathan Knox, of Germantown; Ellie Knox of Murfreesboro; and Harrison Knox, of Germantown.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar. Family Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Forest Hill Midtown Cemetery.
The family requests memorials be directed to the Memphis Humane Society, www.memphishumane.org.

My sincerest sympathies to my extended family on the passing of the lady who was mother to all the guys in the neighborhood. Thank you for sharing her. There are so many memories I have of all of you along with your mom and dad. All of us can truly count ourselves blessed to have known your mom and your families' generosity to us. Thank you just doesn't seem to be enough.
