Roy “Val” Johnson of Goreville, IL passed away Friday, October 31, 2025 at the age of 82.
Because of the love and compassion of his wife, he was able to spend his final days at home with family.
Val was born on March 21, 1944 to Vernie and Gladys Johnson at their home in Tunnel Hill.
Val was married to the love of his life Dot for 45 adventurous years. They spent their years camping, fishing, horseback riding, pushing each other’s buttons, and making amazing memories.
Val is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Jeanette Edwards and husband Larry; son, Arthur Underwood and Shana; granddaughters, Shawna Stilley and husband Daniel, Faelynn Hammond and husband Michael, and Addalyn Underwood; and great-grandchildren, Daxton, Jayda, Wrenley, and Dominic.
Val had a deep love for horses and for spending time camping with his family. He shared this passion with Nette and Art. Val also enjoyed watching cowboys and was always ready to share an old story with anyone willing to listen.
Val’s granddaughters held a special place in his heart, and he was happiest with them by his side. His devotion extended to his great-grandchildren as well, with whom he shared a close bond that lasted through his final days.
He leaves a space in our family that cannot be filled, yet his spirit lives on through the many cherished memories we hold.
A celebration of life is being scheduled, details will be released at a later date.
