Atilio Coan Obituary

Atilio L. Coan, USMC, Ret. OCEANSIDE -- Chief Warrant Officer, Atilio L. Coan, Sr. USMC, Ret., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, and is now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his wife. Atilio was born on Dec. 11, 1920, in Cleveland, Ohio. He served his country as a Disbursing Officer for 26 years. He served in World War II, the Korean conflict and Vietnam. After retiring from the Corps, he pursued many diverse interests, including completing a Bachelor of Arts in business from San Diego State University, working with the State of California as a Certified Public Accountant, teaching at Mira Costa Junior College and obtaining a real estate license. He loved to tinker with cars, boats and his garden. He could fix anything, catch lots of fish, and always had fruit and veggies growing in the garden. He is survived by one brother; his five loving children; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was a loving, caring father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed. Services will be held on Saturday, May 9th, at Blinder Memorial Chapel, Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, with viewing at 12 noon and the memorial service at 1pm.
