Gilbert Picarelli Obituary

SHAMOKIN — Gilbert L. Picarelli, 73, of 559 N. Sixth St., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at Shamokin Area Community Hospital, after becoming suddenly ill Friday, Dec. 17.

Born Jan. 14, 1937, in Shamokin, he was a son of the late Carmine and Concetta (Nastri) Picarelli. He was a life-long resident of Shamokin.

He was a graduate of St. Edward's High School.

Picarelli served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1961.

On Aug. 17, 1963, in Shamokin, he married Rose Fallat, who survives.

He was the owner/operator of Picarelli Fruit and Fish Market, Shamokin.

He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Shamokin, the Shamokin Knights of Columbus, Polish Cadets of Shamokin and a life member of the Independence Fire Company, Shamokin.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons and daughter, Gilbert L. Picarelli Jr. and his wife, Sandy, of Biglerville, Dante Picarelli and his wife, Connie, of Shamokin, Carmine Picarelli and his wife, JoAnn, of Shamokin, Mario Picarelli, of Shamokin, Dominic Picarelli, of Gettysburg, Gianna Papa and her husband, Tony, of Reno, Nev.; 13 grandchildren; three brothers, Rudolph Picarelli, of Navato, Calif., James Picarelli, of Shamokin, and Joseph Picarelli and his wife, Justine, of Shamokin, and a sister, Gloria Catino, of Mount Carmel.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sophia Papa and brothers and sisters, Albert, Henry, Ben, William, Dante and Gerald Picarelli, Ann Boos, Camella McAnnaney, Rita Picarelli, Beatrice Stewart, Helen Kapinen and Elizabeth Carsto.

PICARELLI — Gilbert L. Picarelli, 73, of 559 N. Sixth St., Shamokin. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 832 W. Chestnut St., Shamokin with the Rev. Adrian Gallagher officiating. Burial services will be held at a later date. Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p,m. Sunday at the Farrow Funeral Home, Sixth and Chestnut streets, Shamokin.

Dear Aunt Rose, and cousins Gil, Carmine, Dante, Gianna, Mario, and Dominic,
We were so shocked, and deeply saddened over the huge loss of Uncle Gibby! Words, I'm sure, can not adequately comfort you. I want you to know that my husband, Al, and I will be praying for God's comfort, and healing for the brokeness in your hearts. I have so many memories of Uncle Gib. He was a kind, loving man. I am so sorry that each of you must endure this. We do love each of you. May God bless your entire family!

Mr. Picarelli treated all with honesty and respect.

I remember growing up on second & arch street and my Mother sending me over to Picarelli's. It was Always a good experience.

A very nice man with a great family.
