Virginia Mae Barbour "Polly" Byrd
Smithfield
Mrs. Virginia Mae Barbour "Polly" Byrd, age 90, of Smithfield, went home to be with her Lord on March 25, 2011, at the SECU Hospice Center, surrounded by her family.
She was born on July 16, 1920, to the late Willis Oscar and Lena Lee Barbour.
Polly was affectionately known as "Mama", "Grandma", and "Mema". Her greatest joys were spending time with family, friends and serving the Lord at Hopewell F.W.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Will H. Byrd and daughter, Ann B. Lee.
She is survived by a son, Linwood Byrd and wife Betsy. daughters, Margaret Baker and husband, Ray, Brenda Allen and husband, Jerry, Bonnie Chirdon and husband, Scott, Sonja Morrison and husband, Greg, and Lynette Thompson and husband Dale; sister, Beulah Creech; brother, Tom Barbour; fourteen grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and care giver, Cynthia Goodman.
Visitation is Saturday, March 26, 2011 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Minshew Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at Hopewell FWB Church 5835 Black Creek Road, Smithfield, NC 27577-7810 with Pastor Scott Casey officiating. Burial will follow in the Hills of Neuse Memory Gardens.
Flowers are welcomed but memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell F.W.B. Church or SECU Hospice Center, Smithfield.
