Ann Mahler Peters, 74, of Jefferson Avenue, Waynesboro, passed away at home after a courageous fight with cancer, on Saturday, September 11, 2010.

She was born on March 10, 1936, in Waynesboro, Virginia, a daughter of the late Charles and Irma (Cole) Mahler.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Mahler Critzer.

Ann graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1953, and then attended Dunsmore Business School. She started out working at the Cosmopolitan Travel Service. She later became office manager for the Statler Brothers, until her retirement in 2002. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandsons, and watching them play baseball.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Marlaine and husband Bruce Henderson of Waynesboro; grandsons, Brooks and Patrick Henderson; special nieces and nephews, Charlyne Critzer, Lori Mitchell, Chuck Critzer and Andrew Critzer; great-nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Libby Simmons.

A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at Second Presbyterian Church by Doctor John L. McDonald. Interment will be private prior to the service.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at McDow Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Second Presbyterian Church, 133 North Delphine Avenue, Waynesboro, VA 22980.

The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the Hope Cancer Center and Hospice of the Shenandoah for their compassionate care.

Ann was always a friendly classmate and I, like Rusty, really enjoyed the Statler Bros. Christmas Card each year. Ann was so kind to take us to their office and museum during one reunion. I only got to see her at most of our Cass of 53 Reunions, but I shall miss her at the next reunion. My deepest sympathy to each member of the family.

Ann was a fun schoolmate and friend, and she will certainly be missed. I'll always remember her good nature, and how special it was to get a Christmas card from the Statler Brothers each year. I will treasure fond memories of Ann...and may she rest in peace.

Ann will be missed by all. She was a woman of great character, showing kindness to all! Her world and community was a better place, for she touched so many lives with her beautiful spirit and loving heart. We are sure all the saints in heaven are rejoicing in her presence with them. Truly God has said to Ann, "Well done, my good and faithful servant!"
