Arvin B. Creef Arvin Brant Creef, 89, of Waynesboro, died on Monday, October 25, 2010, at Augusta Health.

A son of Courdia Lee and Affie Basnight Creef, he was born on January 31, 1921, in East Lake, North Carolina.

Mr. Creef worked for the City of Waynesboro as Superintendent of the Sewer Department for 27 years. An active member of Basic United Methodist Church, he served as chair of the Property Committee, president of the Men's Club, treasurer of the Men's Club and Sunday School, and taught Sunday School for a number of years. He also was a scout leader in both Norfolk and Waynesboro for a number of years. During WW II he served in the United States Army.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur and Alvin; his sisters, Annie, Arietta, Alberta, Armetta, and Azalea; and a daughter-in-law, Deborah Lowry Creef.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred Truslow Creef, to whom he was married on June 1, 1946; his children, Arvin B. Creef Jr. and his wife, Suzi, of Asheville, North Carolina, Samuel L. Creef of Midlothian, the Reverend Janet C. Knott and her husband, Eugene, of Staunton, and Michael L. Creef and his wife, Teresa, of Waynesboro; his grandchildren, Kimberly and Tom Buice, Shawn and Caroline Creef, Stacey and Derra Banks, Sarah and Jon Baugher, Katie and Dean Hughes, Brant Creef, Lindsay Creef, Meghan Creef, and Sam Creef; and his great-grandchildren, Abby Buice, Koldin Banks, Mason and Trevor Hughes, and Grace Jones.

A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at Basic United Methodist Church by the Reverend Don Gibson, the Reverend Don Long, and the Reverend Gary Ziegler. Interment will be private at Riverview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at McDow Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made to Basic United Methodist Church, 489 North Winchester Avenue, Waynesboro, VA 22980, the Daily Living Center, 990E Hopeman Parkway, Waynesboro, VA 22980, or the Alzheimer's Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901.

Dear Mildred and family,
We know Arvin is smiling as he celebrates standing in the presence of our Lord. I will miss his smiling face in the pews of Basic church and how he inspired me with his faithfulness. He will be missed by our whole church and community.
