Cherry Eavers Obituary
Cherry Doretha Simmons Eavers, of Augusta County, went home to be with her Heavenly Father Saturday, July 17, 2010, after a lengthy and courageous battle with a brain tumor.
She was born December 28, 1951, in Augusta County, a daughter of Allen B. Simmons Sr. and the late Marie (Pirkey) Simmons.
She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
Cherry had been an active volunteer at Augusta Health since it's opening.
She enjoyed bowling and games with a special group of ladies, and also enjoyed water aerobics at Lifetime Fitness Center.
She was an active volunteer for Staunton Meals on Wheels Program.
She is survived by her loving children and their spouses, two sons and daughters-in-law, Coy and Jenny Eavers of Stuarts Draft and Michael and Victoria Eavers of Bronx, New York; a daughter and son-in-law, Amber and Nick Martino of Stuarts Draft; four grandchildren, Abbey and Wyatt Eavers, and Maggie and Cecilia Martino; one brother, Allen B. Simmons Jr.; one sister, Bonnie Simmons; a dear friend Susan (Wilk) Kane; and beloved pet, Stuart.
Cherry's courage and faith was a inspiration to others.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at Calvary United Methodist Church, Stuarts Draft, by the Reverend Walter B. Failes Jr. A reception will follow at the church social hall.
The family would like to thank The Univeristy of Virginia Medical Center Infusion Clinic Staff and Volunteers, Dr. David Schiff and Staff of Neurology at The University of Virginia Medical Center, and the Staff of the Shenandoah House of Augusta Health.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shenandoah House of Augusta Health, 111 North Campus Lane, Fishersville, Va, 22939 or Food Pantry of Calvary United Methodist Church, 2179 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft, Va, 24477.
Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
