Stanley W. Calder

Stanley W. Calder, 78, of Waynesboro, Virginia, died Sunday, October 18, 2009, at King's Daughters' Community Health Center in Staunton, Virginia.

He was born February 10, 1931, in Richmond, Virginia, the son of Stanley Buford Calder and Jessie Mesco Calder.

He graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in electrical engineering. Stan retired in 1993 after 33 years of service to General Electric having worked in Waynesboro, Richmond and Charlottesville. He was a faithful member of Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church where he was active in several ministries. He was a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Building and Grounds Committee, the Human Concerns Committee, and a Collection Counter. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Heart of the Valley, Council #10760, Lions Club, and The Christian Housing Association. Stan enjoyed playing golf and cards in his spare time.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Katherine Calder; and his granddaughter, Stephanie Marie Calder.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Marian Jones Calder of Waynesboro; four sons, John Calder and his wife, Julie, of Richmond, Steven Calder and his wife, Dawn, of Tequesta, Florida, Bob Calder and his wife, Caroline, of Manassas, Virginia, and David Calder of Charlotte, North Carolina; two daughters, Mary Beth Harbula and her husband, Glenn, of Richmond, Virginia, and Susan Schifer and her husband, Lee, of Aiken, South Carolina. His grandchildren include David Calder and his wife, Kim, Daniel Calder, Jacqui Calder, Katie, Keith, Kevin, and Kenny Harbula, Cameron, Meg, and Alex Calder, Loren Calder, Chris, Jessica, Mikaela, Pete, and Zoe Schifer.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2009, by the Reverend Rolo Castillo at Saint John the Evangelist Church. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Pallbearers willl be family members.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at McDow Funeral Home.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 4634, Charlottesville, VA 22905 , Augusta Regional Free Clinic, P.O. Box 153, Fishersville, VA 22939, or the charity of your choice.

I'm So sorry to hear about Stan - He Will Be Missed by all that knew him. I worked with Stan at GE In Richmond & Charlottesville locations. Stan was a Great Leader & I enjoyed being on his staff as did my Father. He helped me always & was a wonderful Mentor & Friend. Sorry I cannot make the viewing and funeral but my thoughts are with the family during this time.

So sorry to hear about Stan. I worked with Stan at all three lecations and always thought alot of him. We use to kid each other over different things and had many laughs together. I worked with Stan at GE. He was a good man and very helpful to me in my formative years.Best wishes to the family at this sad time. I am sure Stan touched a lot of lifes in a very positive way, he will be around for a long time.

I worked with Stan for many years at GE and have only good memories. I saw him several years ago at the barber shop and he was looking good and enjoying life. My wishes to his family and know that he is in a wonderful place.
