BRANDI COBURN Obituary

COBURN, BRANDI JOMAI KANN Brandi Jomai Kann Coburn, 40, of New Haven, CT went home to be with the Lord at 12:12 on January 14, 2015 after a battle with cancer. Born in Chambersburg, PA on July 29, 1974 to Rand and Sally Kann, she was a 1992 graduate of Big Spring High School in Newville, PA and received a BA from Washington and Jefferson College in 1996. She received an MA in International Studies from University of Connecticut in 1998. She then served as a missionary with Campus Crusade for Christ for 13 years in Providence, Asia, and New Haven. She was married in 2007 to Matthew Coburn, and they joyfully welcomed Eli in 2008 and Katie in 2010. Her life was devoted to following Christ. Compassionate, gentle, gracious, kind, she constantly made those around her the focus of her attention, particularly those who might need a little more love and grace. She poured out her life in ministry to others, a living example of the apostle’s words, “sharing not only the gospel but our lives, because you had become so dear to us.” A caring friend, a willing listener, a compassionate counselor, those who shared a cup of tea with her never failed to come away blessed and encouraged. She traveled extensively, loved children, and served those in need. She will be remembered by friends world-wide. Her loyalty to and love for her family blessed us deeply, and we will miss her dearly. Brandi is survived by her husband, Matthew Morey Coburn, their children Elliot Wolfe Coburn and Katrina Beecher Coburn, her parents Rand and Sally Kann of Newville, PA, brother Kristopher Kann and wife Erica of Broadway, VA, and many other loving extended family members. Brandi’s funeral service will be held Monday, January 19, 2015 at 4pm at Trinity Baptist Church, 630 State Street, New Haven, CT 06511. Viewing will be Sunday, January 18 from 2-5 pm at Trinity Baptist Church. Brandi will have a second funeral service in her hometown on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 1 pm at Newville First Church of God, 475 Shippensburg Road, Newville, PA. Interment will follow in the family plot in Newville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Brandi Coburn Memorial Fund at Trinity Baptist Church which will support the ministries that Brandi loved. It's a rainy day here in Georgia, so I took some time while stuck inside to try to connect with old friends on social media. Brandi was a good friend when we both worked with CCC. She was working with the ministry at Brown at the time, I was at UNH. I found this obituary online and my heart sunk. I lost track of Brandi when she went to East Asia & I moved to Georgia. She was to me exactly the friend described in the obituary to me. We were both single & we prayed together for our future husbands. I am so happy to see her desire to be married and have a family was met, though I am very sad to learn that her life was shorter than I ever imagined. I know she is missed by many and trust God is keeping your family in His care, despite such a loss. Brandi was a true friend to me in a fairly lonely season in my life. I have a photo of the two of us at the top of a mountain in Maine during a unique CCC leadership training event. I trust now she is with God with an even more amazing view, but she will be missed here by me.
