William Hill Obituary

HILL, WILLIAM J. “BILL” William Joseph “Bill” Hill, 88, of West Haven, beloved husband of Ann Baranov Hill, loving father and grandfather, died Monday, February 17, 2014, at the St. Raphael Campus of Yale-New Haven Hospital. Bill was born in New Haven, April 23, 1925, a son of the late William H. and Mary Murray Hill. The loss of his mother early in his life brought him a step-mother, the late Julia Sprague Hill, who was his “Mom” in every loving sense of the word. A graduate of St. Lawrence School and West Haven High School, Bill received his Associates Degree from Quinnipiac University. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy, proudly giving honorable service during World War II. Bill was employed with Foster Electric for 10 years, and later with the IRS for over 27 years before retiring as a supervisor. He was a member of the Father Curtin Council, Knights of Columbus, the West Haven Elks Club, and the Orange Hills Country Club. He loved sports and was an avid N. Y. Yankees and Giants fan. Bill had coached St. Lawrence CYO Basketball, West Haven Little League and Biddy Basketball. Surviving besides his wife Ann are two sons, William J. “Bill” Hill, Jr., and his wife Noreen, of West Haven, and Rev. Dennis P. Hill, and his wife June, of England; three grandchildren, Cherie, Ruth, and Daniel, and a sister Joan Vlahovich, and her husband Jim, of Washington State. He was predeceased by two sisters, Jean Meins and Jeanette Konstantino. The funeral will be from the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven, Tuesday morning at 10:15, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Louis Church, Bull Hill Lane, at 11:00. Burial, with military honors, will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home, Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00. Special thanks and appreciation are extended to the staff of the Orange Health Care Center, Seacrest, University Healthcare, and Paradigm Healthcare Center, for their professional and compassionate care. I am very sorry to hear of Bill's passing. We were classmates together and graduated from WHHS in 1942. Later, I was a practicing CPA and had the pleasure of dealing with him as an IRS Agent. He will be remembered as as a very fine person and citizen.
