Daniel DiGIACOMO Obituary

DiGIACOMO
Daniel Mark, of Ringwood, died Thursday, September 5, 2013.
Dan was a graduate of DePaul H. S. in Wayne, where he was involved in numerous activities, but especially proud of being selected captain of the wrestling team and elected vice president of his senior class. He continued his education at Rutgers College, where he earned a B.A. degree with a double major in economics and communications. He was employed as an associate editor and technical writer for BLI Labs in Hackensack, and was proud of his work as owner and operator of the New York City Party Dodge Ball League. He possessed a keen imagination, great artistic and musical talent and, as an accomplished self-taught guitarist, had organized and played in several bands. Dan was a life long Yankees and Giants fan and an ardent supporter of Rutgers football. Dan will always be remembered as a wonderful, loving son and a caring friend who responded selflessly whenever there was a need. He will be sadly missed by his parents Tina and Dan, sister Cristina, Lauren Augustine, the love of his life, wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends, all of whom he truly cherished. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Heart Association will be greatly appreciated. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday at St. Catherine's R.C. Church, Ringwood. Burial will follow at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes. www.scanlanfuneralhome.com

Memories and Condolences

Not sure what to say?

My sincerest condolences to the entire DiGiacomo family. I met Dan when he worked for a competing toy collector publication, and was thrilled for him when he moved from there to what seemed like a dream job for him, at DC Comics. I remember Dan as a total class act; charming, intelligent, bright-eyed, and always smiling. It was a genuine pleasure to meet and work with him at the trade shows we frequented. Though I haven't seen him in many years, news of his passing burns an everlasting hole in the fabric of the universe. It's right that a guy like Dan should be missed as much as he is by so many. The increasing number of posts in this guest book are a testament to that.

Dan was truly one of the best people I knew. He had the ability to ALWAYS make you laugh. And when he asked you questions about how you were doing, how your family was, etc., it was very clear that he wasn't asking out of any obligation, but rather because he really cared. He was a fantastic musician, coming up with the most creative songs, that were so much fun to play. And when playing with Dan on stage, he was so relaxed, and had such a good time, it was impossible for anyone in the room not to smile and enjoy what he was doing – the life and energy he brought to the music and the room was almost tangible. He had a great sense of humor. And one of the best things about when Dan would tell a funny story was the way he would laugh at the funny parts, with that great, infectious laugh he had, as if hearing the story for the first time. When the guys would get together, everyone knew it would be extra special if Dan was going to be there. He was so special in every way, and I'll miss everything that made Dan so extraordinary. I'm glad I had the privilege to know Dan. He will be forever missed.

I am so thankful to have known Dan. The world lost one of the best people I ever knew. To Dan's family: I'm so sorry for your loss, I'm sure you'll keep his signature smile in your heart. To Dan: Thank you for helping me appreciate NYC, the Yankees, NJ, the UWS, scary movies, exposed brick walls and most importantly, a good hug. RIP.

I always looked forward to seeing Dan when he would come to Toronto or we were in NYC. I feel so fortunate to have considered him a friend. He was one of the nicest, funniest, most genuine people I've had the good fortune to know. Even though I didn't get to see him very often, he was one of my favourite people. I am so sorry that I can't be there in person to bid him farewell. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones. This is hard. I will miss him.

Dan came to Toronto a few times with a mutual friend, Manny Jose, as well as Dezi, Neil, and Adam. They called themselves the Boner Kings and the Toronto crew always looked forward to their visit with great anticipation. Dan was just such a positive, generous person. My wife Kara Thompson and I have such fond memories of Dan's visits and were looking forward to the next time we met. We send the warmest wishes from Canada and feel very far away this week.

It was an honor to call Dan my friend. I had and never will meet anyone like him again. He had such a gentle soul. His ability to make one feel like they were the most important person in the room never ceased to amaze me. His famous Dan hugs that made you feel it was just for you will be missed. I have spent the last two days crying for a dear friend who will be missed and laughing at those common Dan phrases we will all remember him for. Today I came to the conclusion, that I can no longer feel sorry for myself for a friend lost, but I feel sorry for those who didnt get to know him. I realized we are the lucky ones.
My condolescences to his famly and to the beautiful Lauren. He loved you all so much.

I love you my sweet DD!
Rest in Peace until we meet again friend.

Dan touched the hearts of anyone who was lucky enough to get to know him. He was so generous, so caring and so funny. He related to everyone and knew something about everything. Dan was the type of guy who would take the brand-new coat off his back and throw it over a puddle without hesitation so you didn't get your shoes dirty. He remained positive, always, but let you vent if you needed to. He was an all around wonderful person. Gonna miss you buddy!

Dan was one of the first friends I made in NYC and quickly became one of the most important. We started our silly little band, and little did I know how much it would mean to me and what great friends we would all become. I dubbed Dan my "musical soulmate" because we wrote some of our favorite songs together in under 10 minutes, and I don't know anyone else that would do a jazz version of Dr. Feelgood. He was always full of encouragement, eager to share a hug and smile, and was a truly great friend. Dan was so full of life and I'm so fortunate that I got to be part of it. I'm going to miss you dearly, my friend.

There aren't enough words to describe Dan on paper. If you were lucky enough to know him, then you'd know how incredibly talented and amazing he was. He would always greet you with a huge hug and wanted to know what was going on in your life. He was charming, funny, witty and the kindest person we've ever had the good fortune of knowing.

It's hard to imagine a world without his bright smile and his wonderful laugh. Dan was one-of-a-kind.

We will never forget him and will always hold our wonderful memories with him in our hearts. We are thankful to have had a friend like him in our lives.

Rest in peace, sweet Dan.

Dan was one of those people that everyone knew and always had something good to say about him. The thing I will always remember most about Dan was his warm smile. His smile said so much about him without saying a word. It was a pleasure to know Dan and be able to call him a friend. Condolences to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace Dan

I'm grateful to have gotten to know Dan several years ago through our best friend Angela. He was an amazing host and adventure buddy whenever we spent weekends in NY for Comic Con or just hanging out. I'll miss those times running around the city with him as our guide, and late night sing-along jam sessions in his apartment when we'd wake the neighbors. Dan loved everyone he came across, and he was much loved by everyone who knew him. I'm deeply saddened by his loss but I'm grateful for the time I was able to spend with him and our friends. He will truly be missed, but always remembered.

When I hear the name Dan Digiacomo I instantly remember his beautiful smile and warm gentle spirit! I met Dan while I worked at DC Comics and supported the softball games he played in with DC Comics, my heart hurts and I cried when I heard the news, I can't even begin to imagine how the parents, family & close friends are coping! I do pray God brings comfort & understanding, that memories bring peace and smiles to the hearts Dan had touched at one point or another!! Rest in Paradise Dan, I will Never forget you?

My condolences to the DiGiacomo family. I had the pleasure of meeting Dan at work and really getting to know him while making music with him over the past several years. Dan brought music back into my life, for which I will forever be grateful. His passing will leave a huge void in my life, as I'm sure it will in the lives of many people. Such a kind soul, taken from us far too soon.
