Robert G. Vinson

1928 - 2009

Robert G. Vinson, age 80, U.S. Air Force (Ret.), of Crestview, Fla., passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at Silvercrest Manor.
Robert was born in Headland, Ala., on Dec. 12, 1928, to parents Robert and Effie Vinson. Robert served his country in the U.S. Air Force valiantly for 20 years. While in the military, Robert witnessed an incident concerning the assassination of John F. Kennedy, a book written by James P. Johnston and Jon Roe in 2003 called "Flight From Dallas."
Robert and his wife, Roberta Bolin Huddleston, were married for 50 years. Following his service career, Robert and his wife Roberta set-tled in Wichita, Kan., where he graduated from Kansas Newman University and worked for the City of Wichita for 20 years. He was a mem-ber of Riverlawn Christian Church, where he served as a trustee for 20 years. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Crestview for 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; one daughter, Angela Vinson; grandson, Ethan Vinson; and stepson, Benton Hud-dleston.
Survivors are his wife, Roberta Vinson; daughter, Dolores Vinson; step-daughter, Sandra (Dan) McCarthy; two sisters, Alice Clemons and Eddie Lou Gomillion; grandchildren, Brian Vinson, Cathy (Jeff) Haddock, D'Wayne and Darryll Huddleston; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Mary Vinson and Ramona Vinson; and special friends, Jim and Therla, Martha, Lynn, Betty, Jim and Vella, Stanley and Cassie and Michelle, and others too numerous to mention.
Robert was active in bowling, golfing and square dancing and was a member of the VFW.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Woodlawn Baptist Church with Pastors Patrick Pfrimmer and George Katzman officiating. Robert will be buried with full military honors in Wichita at The Resthaven Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice and the building fund of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
