STEPHEN GOTTLIEB Obituary

GOTTLIEB--Stephen Philip,

73, died peacefully and surrounded by family in his home in New York City on December 23, 2015. Born on October 18, 1942 to Lucille and Albert Isaac Gottlieb, Steve was a native of Revere, MA. He graduated from Boston College and Harvard Law School and went on to become a project finance partner at the prestigious Wall Street law firm Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft before founding Argent Group Ltd. and later the Argent Marine Companies. Serving as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Argent Marine until his death, Steve was a world-leading expert on the waterborne transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) working to revolutionize the LNG transportation market. In addition to a great passion for his work, Steve loved his family, travel, Boston athletic teams, sports cars and his state-of-the-art tropical aquariums. He resided in Incline Village, NV and maintained homes in New York City, San Francisco and Costa Rica. Brilliant, dignified and exceptionally hard working, Steve was an extraordinary man who touched the lives of all those lucky enough to know him. We will remember his warm smile, his unique sense of humor, his passion for life and most of all his steadfast dedication to those he loved. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Denise Miller; brothers, Jay (Gale) and Martin (Jacqui) Gottlieb; three adoring children, David (Betsy) Gottlieb, Kim (Kevin) Klipstein and Vanessa Gottlieb; two step-children, Letia (Matt) Clouston and Zach (Emily) Miller; and four grandchildren, Tanner, Lily, Teagan and Rose. Steve fought tirelessly and with an often super-human fortitude all his life. His departure leaves an emptiness in the hearts of many, but Steve loved and was loved with all heart and soul, and this love will live on. A memorial reception will be held for Steve in February, 2016. Donations in Steve's honor may be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

I got to know Steve when we were both at the beginning of our careers. I was with Bank of Montreal and he was representing Bowery Savings Bank who were funding a tugboat deal. He was brilliant, a tough negotiator but a very warm and funny guy. We kept in touch from time to time and I was deeply sorry to learn of his passing. My sincere sympathy to his family. May he Rest In Peace. Michael Adams

Dear Denise and family,

We're so sorry for your loss. We loved getting together with you and Steve in Costa Rica. Our conversations were always stimulating - from trying to develop an LNG business in Costa Rica, to local politics. He was part of the community, - not just another expat retiree. We would have liked to have spent more time with him.
