James Hazelwood Obituary

James Robert Hazelwood, longtime resident of Oklahoma City, died at home on November 24, 2010. He was 83 years old. Memorial services will be conducted at All Souls' Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 29, 2010. Jim was born September 7, 1927, in Seminole, OK, to James and Anna Hazelwood. He attended public schools in Oklahoma and graduated from Classen High School in 1945. Upon graduation, he served in the Army Air Corps until he was honorably discharged. On July 22, 1950, he married Dorothy Clark, and the couple made their home in Oklahoma City, where they raised their two children, Jim, Jr. and Elizabeth. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Petroleum Engineering, Jim worked for various oil and gas companies until 1969. At that time, he established his own company, Hazelwood, Inc., which is still active in the oil and gas industry. During his youth, Jim played various sports and was a lifetime sports enthusiast. He particularly enjoyed golf, which provided him with many memorable outings with family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; his son, Jim Hazelwood, and his wife, Cindy, of Oklahoma City, and their two children, Emily Borst and her husband, Josh, and their two children, Lizzie and Jimmy, of Conway, Arkansas, and Ross Hazelwood of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Schatz, and her husband, Steve, and their two sons, Zachary and Benjamin, all of Oklahoma City; as well as his sister, Norma Johnson; and brother, Gene Hazelwood, and wife, Jenny. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, June McNeely. Memorial contributions may be made in the name of James R. Hazelwood to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Jim will be remembered always as a man of great character and integrity who loved and cherished his family and friends.
