Tonka trucks, hot wheels and just playing for hours when everyone else was at school. Those are the memories I have of me an Steven. My family lived next door to him in NJ until we moved away when I was 10 years old. Some of my earliest memories are with my friend Steven. This might seem strange for many reasons. One, I just today found out that Steven passed away 15 years ago and secondly, because I haven't spoken his name for 49 years. Even so, when I found out that he had passed away, I felt that I needed to say something. Steven was my first friend. It was just the two of us until Scotty came along. My earliest memories, though, are with Steven. We were just young kids having fun. Again, I know this might sound strange if anyone is to read this so many years following his passing. You were a great first friend, rest in peace.

This is the poem our daughter wrote and read at her dad's funeral.

Father
The shadows of your memory
Dance on the palm of my hand,
Unable to be held,
but it's only temporary
For we are forever in a band.

I hear your unheard voice
As I watch the beauty you create:
A man jumping in a cloud
With no choice of his own fate.

My hands burn in frustration
As our blood course through them,
Awaiting the sensation
To touch you once again.

And for everyday
Your feet don't touch the ground,
I will pray
Until I know you've been found.

Psalm 46:9

January 14, 2011

God promised "He is making wars to cease to the extremity of the earth. The bow he breaks apart and does cut the spear in pieces; The wagons he burns in the fire." True eternal peace awaits us.

My deepest sympathy to Steve's family. Steve played on our football team at Lenape Valley HS. I coached him on the freshman team and his versatility as an athlete was instrumental to an 8-1 season. When injuries occured, Steve was asked to change positions so that the team could succeed. He was a special player - tough and very coachable. He will be missed. Rest in Peace Steven.
