Mary Peters Obituary

Mary Ann Peters

Chesapeake - Mary Ann Peters, 91, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2016. Mary Ann was born in Mayville, WI and was predeceased by her mother Frances Steeholm, sister Jane Hoffman, three Steeholm brothers - John, Joe, and Jim, and her loving son Joseph (Joey). We know that they are having a most joyous reunion.

Mary Ann was married over 70 years to the the love of her life CAPT Bernard (Bernie) Peters, USN RET and she will remain forever his young bride, or Sweetie. Mary Ann and Bernie were childhood sweethearts and married on June 27, 1945. Bernie was a very devoted and loving husband. Mary Ann gave birth to nine beautiful children and together with Bernie raised them with loving hearts. She had a wit beyond compare and loved to play practical jokes on her Bernie and children all the time. Mary Ann was truly a force of nature, a force to be reckoned with, and will be in our hearts forever. Her family knows that she is in a much better place now. Thank you my dear Sweetie for years of true love.

Left to cherish Mary Ann's memory are her loving and devoted husband Bernie, eight surviving children: Suzanne Gibson (Pete), Diana Partin (George), James Peters (Sharon), Patricia Black (Bill), Cathleen Short (Steve), Jane Potter (Tom), Jean Graham (Kenny), and John Peters; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mary Ann's life will be private and at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Altzheimer's Associaton or the charity of choice. Cremation Society of Virginia is handling the arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed to www.cremate.org.

Dear Captain Peters and the Peters Clan
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your wife, mother and grandmother. I think the obituary perfectly captures Mrs. Peters. I was a high school pal of Patty's and only ever knew you as Captain & Mrs. until I read the obituary. Mary Ann would play pranks on me frequently when I came to see Patty. She had a great sense of humor. A mass will be offered for Mrs. Peters next April Fools Day.

Heartfelt wishes and prayers for all of you.

I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of your wife, mother and friend. I loved Mrs. Peters, even though she was the one and only teacher to ever give me detention. I have a lot of good memories of the times I spend over your house with Jean. I wish we had stayed in touch. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.
