This Southern lady will forever be "Amanda" to many people, but to me, she will always be my Aunt Toots. I was the niece (Daughter of Carrie Mae Knight Murphy) who drove her to distraction -- the Northern tomboy who put turtles in her tub, taught her children how to climb trees, catch ocean crabs and traipse in sand from the beach, and who scared everyone with ghost stories. Because of the lovely home Aunt kept, always busy with people coming and going, my childhood memories are extra-special: laughter around the canasta table, wonderful homemade dinners, Brentwood Sunday School and Church services, etc. Summertime in Virginia and North Carolina were always the most amazing vacations: we didn't need tech-items or TV to have fun. A day at the beach, playing Monopoly on the back porch, or Mother-May-I? on the sidewalk, lighting sparklers at night, eating a 5 cent popcicle -- those were the days! I look forward to seeing Aunt Toots again someday -- she'll proably laugh when she sees me coming. I can almost hear her now! Several years ago, I had the opportunity to drive the 8-10+ hours to Norfolk to spend some time with her. We sat and looked at family photos and just shared good times together. It was a precious, very special 2 days with her. I had hoped to see her on earth again, but that reunion will now have to wait awhile longer...we will all see you soon, dear Aunt...
And to my treasured cousins: we hope to get to VA and NC sometime within the next couple of years to stay in touch with y'all and those growing grandkids...OR you come on over to Nashville! Love to everyone...

Rob and I were so sorry to hear of Mrs. Griffin's passing. We both
remembered her from our childhoods at Brentwood, and in later years when we went to Brentwood with my mother, Annie Mae Smith.
She was always a kind and loving person. My mother always felt very close to her. Our thoughts and prayers are with you now.
Sincerely, Sylvia Smith Watson and Rob Watson
