Varner Ivey Obituary

Varner Jean Ivey NEWSOMS - Varner Jean Ivey, 56, died Sept. 1, 2009. She was born in Franklin and was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church. Varner was a retired nurse and was a loving, caring, and gifted individual whose family will greatly miss her. Survivors include her parents, Jean and Ralph Ivey; her daughter, Joanna Courtney Ivey: her sister, Teresa Van Damme (David); and her grandson, Cole Thomas Ivey. She is also survived by several uncles and aunts, Buddy Gray, Ann Gray Futrell, Blanche Semchyshyn, Joe Gray, Mike Gray; and a very special uncle, Kenneth Gray and his wife Marion. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hollywood Cemetery, Newsoms, with the Rev. Darwin Edwards officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Barnes United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Betty Darden, 33701 Statesville Road, Newsoms, VA 23874. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, has charge of arrangements. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.

Unbelievable it's almost 10 years since her passing. She is missed. I remember her laughter & humor. She made jokes about everything. "There's a mowse in the howse get him owt get him owt!"

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Varner Jean & I went to Southampton High School together. She was such a dear friend, so beautiful, with a great personality and a big,loving smile for everyone. May God bless you.

I am very sorry to hear about Varner Jean. Haven't seen her since high school graduation but fondly remember the fun and laughs we had back then. What a great friend she was. And that great smile. I am sure she will be missed by so many. My prayers go out to her parents. Mrs. Ivey, I remember that you did so much for us students. Thank you for being so involved. You are a treasure.
