Lillian Purvis Obituary

Lillian Ruth Purvis CHESAPEAKE - Lillian Ruth Purvis, 77, of the 500 block of Oak Lake Terrace, passed away May 29, 2010 at Durham Regional Hospital. She was born Sept. 27, 1932 to the late Lucy and Henry Maye in Pitt County, North Carolina. She was a member of New Light Baptist Church, Virginia Beach. She retired after 23 years of service with Norfolk Public Schools as a custodian. She was predeceased by her husband, Bennie Purvis Jr. She is survived by three daughters, Avis Purvis Hines (James), Peggy L. Purvis and Lillian Janet Purvis; one son, Edward Glen Purvis (Cheryl); one sister, Louise Roberson; one brother, John Robert Maye; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Lee's Chapel AME Church, 1036 Bells Mill Road, Chesapeake. Pastor Darryl J. McClary will officiate. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Family and friends will assemble at 508 Oak Lake Terrace one hour prior to service for procession to the church. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Berkley Ave. Chapel. Condolences may be offered at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.
