James Moore Obituary

Mr. James "Jimmy" Cleveland Moore II, 86, of 15018 Cox Road, Church Road, Va., departed this life on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center, Richmond.

He was born on July 21, 1924, to the late James C. Moore Sr. and Mary Brown Moore. He was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Moore; one niece, Ruby Moore Hood; three aunts, Esther Walker; Eloise Lewis and among them devoted, Lillian Malone, who reared him as her son.

James was a member of the Peabody High School Class of 1948. He was a veteran of the Navy and Air Force branches of the United States military. He retired from the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier with Branch 326. He also retired as a toll attendant from the Richmond-Petersburg Turnpike.

James was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church, Petersburg. He was a member of the J.B. Brown Memorial Choir and the First Baptist Male Chorus. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and a former member of Club 17, Petersburg.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife of 27 years, Martha B. Moore; one son, James C. Moore III of Varina; two stepsons, Loyd H. Williams Jr. and Kenneth D. Williams Sr. (Rhonda) of Chester; one stepdaughter, Darlene Rene Martin (Raymond) of Matoaca; one sister, Janet R. Giles of Petersburg; five stepgrandchildren, Azereon and Tiara Johnson, Kenneth Williams Jr. of Richmond, Alexis Williams of Chester and Christina Martin of Matoaca; one godgrandson, Brayden Earl Walker of Chester; two devoted nieces, Janelle Giles of Petersburg and Mary Moore of Philadelphia; two nephews, Don Rose of Lawrence, Mass., and Eldridge Rose (Vanessa) of Williamstown, N.J.; devoted cousins, Mildren Parham and Gilbert Brown of Petersburg, Lillie Bonner and Shirley B. Walker of Church Road, Va., Barbara (Henry), Giavanni and Angela DeBose and Dr. Katrina Walker of Chester; devoted great-nieces, Shelona, Shermaine and Selena of New Jersey; great-nephews, Walter, James and Clarence of Philadelphia; two special friends, Maurice Bowles and Donnie Pride of Petersburg; and many family and friends too numerous to name.

The family is especially grateful to the staff of the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center and Dr. Brian Wasserman and his staff.

A funeral service will take place at noon on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at Zion Baptist Church, Petersburg, where the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Andrew White, will officiate. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will assemble at the residence at 10:45 a.m. There will be a wake from 7 to 8 tonight at the Chapel of William N. Bland & Son.
