So sorry to read this on-line. I have known the Ellis family ever since Billy and I were in lower-middle school. Wonderful family. Glad he is now with his beloved wife, Pauline, and their son, Billy.

I got to know Jabo in the last 10 years. I always enjoyed talking to him about his Purple Martins that returned year after year. A kind, true country gentleman.

Jabo was a friend to everyone in our community. He was the last of the original members of the daily "meeting" held on the bench at Thornton's store. He will be missed by all of us. It is comforting to know that he is now with Pauline and Billy.

Jabo Ellis will be missed by those who knew him and even those who didn't. In his later years he took his turn on the "old men's" bench in front of Thornton's store, as had so many before him, including Mr. Gordon and Gatewood Simmons, among many. From this vantage point he observed life at the courthouse and would share his recollections with anyone who cared to linger there. He enjoyed having a neat and tidy homeplace, as anyone passing could clearly see. During his illness he wouldn't complain, he still maintained as much independence as he could. His life was lived well, and his memory will be around a long time.

I am so sorry to hear of Jabo's passing. I met Jabo in 2007, when he invited me to visit Hunting Quarters plantation. Glen Hannuksela took myself and my wife to the plantation and we
were so graciously recieved by Jabo. He showed us the cemetery, the plantation house, his own home and even retrieved
some historical books and pictures. He asked Glenn to get me a magnetic sign from the door of his truck. This was his Hunting Quarters sign. I have proudly displayed this sign at my home in Muskogee, Ok.
I truly wish that I could have had more time to get to know a great man.
My deepest sympathy to family and friends.

Jabo was a great guy. I got to know him well as I was his brother "Willie's" stepson. He will be greatly missed.
