Thomas Matteo Obituary
May 7, 1956 - July 26, 2025
Thomas M. Matteo, 69, of Waterbury, was reunited with his wife in heaven on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Kathleen H. (Genesky) Matteo for over twenty-eight years, who predeceased him in 2021.
Tom was born in Waterbury on May 7, 1956, a son of the late Patsy and Eleanor (Rinaldi) Matteo. Being a graduate of Wolcott High School, Class of 1974, Tom then attended Northeastern University and the University of Connecticut to further his education. For over fifty years, Thomas worked for the Waterbury Republican American Newspaper, starting when he was sixteen years old. Tom was also an avid sports fan, especially of the N.Y. Mets.
Tom leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, Patsy Thomas Matteo; a sister, Carol Strachan, and her husband, Eric, of South Carolina; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Arrangements: All funeral services for Thomas will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Brookside Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 200 Benson Road, Middlebury, has been entrusted with handling Thomas' services.

So sad to hear of Tom's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Him at the Waterbury Republican for many years. He was a hard dedicated worker who always had a humorous way about Him. RIP my dear Friend.

My deepest condolences to Tom's family. My husband and I worked at the newspaper for many years with Tom. I sincerely believe Tom would have given the shirt off his back to anyone that needed it. He was a very loving and giving guy who will be greatly missed. Rest in peace with your love Tom
