LORENE ARLEDGE Obituary

Lorene Gray Arledge
Cross Plains

Lorene Gray Arledge, age 92, of Austin, formerly of Cross Cut, passed away Monday, January 2, 2012 in Austin. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church of Cross Plains with Kevin Martin officiating; burial will follow in the Cross Cut Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, January 5th at Higginbotham Funeral Home in Cross Plains from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
A member of the Greatest Generation, she was born on February 21, 1919 in Fort Belknap, TX to Lonnie and Ida (Ringhoffer) Gray. As a child, Lorene moved with her parents and two younger sisters to various parts of Colorado and Utah before returning to Texas where she resided the rest of her life. Lorene was a nurse in Dr. Carl Sohns's office in Cross Plains for many years. In her retirement, Lorene often took care of her two grandchildren who lovingly called her Mammo.
Lorene is survived by many friends and family including a daughter Elizabeth Smith of Jackson, Mississippi; a son Larry Smith of Odessa, TX; a daughter Nancy Arledge Stovall and husband Charles and their two children Melanie and Chandler Stovall all of Austin; and a sister Mozelle Gray Tonne of San Angelo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alton Jackson "Jack" Arledge, and a sister, Dorothy Gray Merris.
