Larry Finley Obituary

Larry Allen

FINLEY

Larry Allen Finley passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2008, in his home from natural causes. Larry was born in Pensacola, FL on January 21, 1963, and grew up in Lemoore CA. Larry moved to Reno, NV in October 1988, where he met his wife of almost 20 years, Gayle.

Larry was an active part of AA in the Reno/Sparks area, and has been attending University of Phoenix as a full time student to obtain his Bachelor's degree in Human Services; a lifelong dream come true in his desire to become a full time drug and alcohol abuse counselor. Larry is remembered by all who know him as a positive outgoing person who wants to serve others, at whatever the personal cost. His outgoing, non-judging personality made him a welcome friend and loved one to all who knew him on either a surface or personal level. He will be missed by all.

Larry is survived by his adoring wife, Gayle; son and daughter, James and Christina Finley of Hanford, CA; grandson, Joshua Finley; loving parents, Jerry and Jan Finley of Fernley, NV; sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Jeff Jackson of Virginia; sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Frank Frievalt of Sparks, NV; sister-in-law, Phyllis Johnston; brother and sister-in-law, David and Joan Blakeslee; and nephews and nieces, Amy, Kelly, Nick, Bobbie, Kyle and Miranda.

A memorial celebration of Larry's life will be held at Reno Assembly of God, 524 Bell Street, Reno, on September 6 at 2 p.m. Family donations in lieu of flowers are appreciated and may be left at the church during the memorial or sent to PO Box 6077, Reno, NV 89513. A reception for family and friends will follow at the church.

I remember Larry every time I face a difficult situation in school or in life. I reminisce of him the night before our presentation; I close my eyes and I see my friend standing, with the encouraging words of wisdom he always had. I see HIM standing next to Our Lord!

It's so hard to believe you've been gone more than three years. Tomorrow would be your 49th birthday and I'm already wondering how we would have spent it. I still miss you terribly some days, although as time passes the days do get easier. Your memories live on through all who knew and loved you. I am missing you today.

Wish heaven had a phone so I could hear your voice. I thought of you today, but that's nothing new. I thought about you yesterday, and the days before that too. I think of you in silence, and often speak your name. All I have are memories and a picture in a frame. Your memories a keepsake, from which I'll never part. God has you in his arms. I have you in my heart.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I see you every time I open my binder, I see your picture as a reminder that one knows not when one will go. I carry this picture of you as my friend and inspiration to continue with my education...

Well Uncle Larry, today is your birthday and I miss you more than ever. Even though I did not get to see you much I do have a lot of memories of you and wish that I could have seen you a whole lot more. We always had a great time together and we still will because I know that you are watching down on everyone and I know everyone is always thinking of you. I miss you and love you very much and I know that the family does also.

Today is your birthday. The family is getting together for you tonight. I know you will be there with us. You always liked our get togethers, although I think it was the food you like most. I think of you all the time, all the little things you did over the years of your growing up. but most of all the smile you always had for me. and your " Mom,Don't worry, I'm fine." I miss you so, so much...

I can't believe it has been over a year since you left us. I have pictures sitting around that remind me of the times that I use to pick on you. And all the heartfelt memories of our times growing up. We were so much alike that I feel a part of me died with you.
We made a secret pact and now your gone. But I know you will still help me with it when the time comes. I love you and know that you will always be with me.

Your Loving Sister,
Pam

We have all suffered a loss with the passing of Larry. While I didn’t know Larry well, I know Larry’s family as I am married to his sister Pam, and I will let you know that the entire Finley family, and including Larry and Gail took me into their family with open arms and loving hearts; this I thank them all for. We should always remember Larry by the values instilled in him by his mother and father, Jerry and Jan Finley.

To The Finley Family:

Please know that our thoughts and prayers have been with all of you during this difficult time. We know that Larry will be missed, but his legacy will live on through his friends, family and loved ones. While we never personally met Larry, his sister, Pam, is proof enough of the type of person he must have been.

With our condolences

Gayle and Finley Family, for momemts like these we have such few words to say but I would like to express my heart filled love for your loss, Larry was the type of person one wishes to be like, so energetic and non judgmental but always had something to say when he arrived to class. Larry my friend, my confidant may you rest in peace without vices and you leave us here to carry the torch for your path, You'll be missed greatly by so many people you touched and knew you left a great impression on! Gayle,

We have a life time of memories that we would not trade with you and Larry. Just the other day Adam was hanging his fishing poles in the garage and instantally remembers the camping fishing trip we all took. Larry will always remain in our hearts. We love you both very much and are here for you always.

Gayle,

I am so sorry that Larry is gone. My heart is broken for Christina, James, Joshua and for you. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for being so thoughtful to my children; I could not have asked for a better stepmother for them than you. One can never have too many people that love them in this world. I hope that you will remain a part of their lives.

I was an instructor of Larry's at the University of Phoenix. I am so sorry to hear of his death as he was working hard towards a new career that would allow him to contribute his experiences for the benefit of others. He was a compassionate student and shared his love for mankind with the rest of us. I was fortunate to have had him in class.

Gayle,

I wish I knew what to say at times like these. You're in my heart and in my prayers.

I'm so glad that you and Kim met waaay back when, you were really good for each other. I know that you two have drifted apart a little over the years, but she really values your friendship. You helped her out a few years ago when she went through this, now you can lean on her.
