'Butch'
FLORIDA- James Edward "Butch" Robbins, 64, passed away, Thursday, June 5, 2014 in Palm Bay, FL. He was born in Edgecombe County on August 5, 1949 to the late Eunice Joyner and Thomas Edward Robbins. Butch enlisted in the US Army in 1967 during the Vietnam Conflict. While serving his country on November 25, 1968, he was injured when he stepped on a land mine. The US Army honored him with The Purple Heart and several other metals. In 1976 he was presented The Federal Handicap Employee of the Year Award by President Jimmy Carter .Butch had many interest and worked very hard even thru the struggles of his disabilities which he never consider himself disable or handicapped, but HANDICAPABLE. He was a dispatcher for Seymour Johnson Air force Base and a member of Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department. One of his greatest accomplishments was helping others thru his motivational speaking. He had many jobs including, farming and auctioneering. Butch also wrote a book about his life, in his hopes to help others.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Robbins of Palm Bay, FL.; brother, Michael "Mike" Robbins of Rocky Mount, two sons, James Robbins, Jr. of Rocky Mount and Joshua Robbins of Palm Bay, FL., two daughters, Crystal Williams of Tennessee and Candice Robbins of Nashville, NC., step-children, Kim Robards of Tennessee, William Twiddy of North Carolina, Sean Sullivan of Tennessee, John Sullivan of Germany and Sheryl Robbins of Palm Bay, FL., two nephews, Michael Dale Robbins, Jr., and Alex Robbins, and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 7, 2014 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Cornerstone Funeral Home with Pastor James Robertson officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens of Wilson.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mike Woodlief for all his help and kindness during this time.

Sorry for you loss. I heard Butch speak and bought his book. I also went to West Edgecombe I was in the same class as his brother Mike. I remember when we heard about Butch' accident in Vietnam.

My family and I knew Butch growing up around West Edgecombe. He was at our home quite often. We were always amazed at his abilities and strengths. My family knew Butch well and as a child growing up he was a part of our household quite often before moving from the Rocky Mount area. We were always amazed at his abilities and strengths.His outgoing personality would make us smile and laugh. Have many good memories of Butch during that time. My husband and I met Butch at a store he had. He connected with my husband as they both served in the Army. He autographed a book for him. What a kind spirit. Rest In Peace!
