David Blamo Woods

SALISBURY - David Blamo Woods, age 54, of 231 D Ave., passed away Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

He was born Dec. 24, 1954, in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa, to the late John and Mary Boye Woods. He was a graduate of Tubman High School and received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Liberia, Monrovia.

Mr. Woods previously served as principal at Isaac Davis School, Monrovia, and was also previously employed at Maxon Furniture. A member of Rowan International Church, he served as a Deacon and Bible Class teacher. Mr. Woods was also a member of the Liberia Community Association.

Survivors are his wife, Younger Roberts Woods of the home; sons Mike Douglas Woods, Monrovia, Lincoln Woods and Romar Morris, both of the home; daughters Lindsay Woods, Salisbury, and Linda Woods, Charlotte; several brothers in Liberia; sisters Ophelia Weeks, Philadelphia, Pa., Nancy Holmes (Varney), Martha Morris (Roland), Louise Robinson (Lawrence) and Elizabeth Woods Manley, all of Salisbury, Esther Brewer, Minnesota, Ellen Woods and Beatrice Dassin, both of Philadelphia, Pa., and Theresa Jones, Liberia; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews in the United States and Liberia, including Letitia Sanders, Salisbury, Kamah Dillard, Georgia, Ernestine Julue, Charlotte, Florence Doe, Boston, Mass., Pastor Joseph Jones, Sappia Venn, Samatha Samolu, Julian Samolu, Jomo Julue, Banglee Jabateh and Gertha Robinson, all of Salisbury, Rames Morris, U.S. Army stationed in Iraq, Terrence Ward, Charlotte, John Greaves and Rose-Joy Greaves, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; brothers and sisters-in-law including Kolu Clarke, Philadelphia, Pa., Tete Roberts, Minnesota, Helena Roberts, Boston, Mass., Yokie Jeffy, Ohio, Fatu Howard Flahn, Florida, Garmai Wenwu Howard, Minnesota, Samuel M. Roberts, Salisbury; and several other family members in the United States and Liberia.

Service: Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 at First Baptist Church, 223 N. Fulton St., with Rev. Jacob Doe officiating.

Wake: 7 p.m.-12 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25 at Rowan International Church, 1709 N. Lee St., Salisbury. Rev. Joseph Jones is officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE WOODS FAMILY.I WAS SO SHOCKED WHEN I HEARD ABOUT DAVID PASSING.HE WAS A WONDERFUL PERSON AND ALWAYS GREETED YOU WITH A SMILE.HE WILL BE MISSED.MAY GOD HOLD YOU IN HIS HANDS AND COMFORT YOU IN YOUR TIME OF NEED.NANCY YOU ARE IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.I KNOW THAT DAVID WILL REST IN PERFECT PEACE.MAY GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY.

I want to give my condolences to the Woods family. I was their neighbor for a while and got to know Lindsey, Linda and Lincoln. They are some wonderful young people. I will forever remember that warm smile that David had and he was a very good dad to his children. God bless you all
