I worked with John at Reynolds for many years and considered him a dear friend. Although I have never met any of his family I know who each of you are because he was so proud of you and he talked about you all the time. I was thinking of John today and was going to call him but I got distracted and then I was shocked to receive a call telling me he had died a week ago. Please know he and all of you continue to be in my prayers.during this sad time. John was a wonderful soul and we loved him.

My husband & I used to be tenants in an apartment we rented from John in Arroyo Grande. I just learned of John's passing this morning, through a friend who actually lives in that same apartment today. I didn't know John had been sick (since it had been a couple of years since we were tenants) and I was deeply saddened & shocked to hear of his passing.
Our acquaintanceship with John began when my husband & I were desperately seeking an apartment in a decent neighborhood - one that we could enjoy with our two young children. I happened upon the ad for John's place just moments after it had been posted online, and once we toured the immaculately-kept apartment, I practically begged him to rent to us! Ever the gracious & kindhearted landlord, he made the move-in process very easy, and welcomed us warmly to the neighborhood. We were (sadly) only able to stay in the apartment for a year and a half, but for the entirety of our stay John was so attentive and worked so hard to keep the grounds tidy and beautiful that I never forgot his kindness. Indeed, we had never rented from anyone (and have yet to find another landlord) who cared as much about the PEOPLE in the apartment, as he did about the actual apartment itself!
The memories I have of John are of him busily moving about the apartment grounds, wearing a warm smile, always working hard to make sure his tenants were happy and well-tended-to. His grandson would often been seen happily trailing his grandfather, helping to make small repairs or carry supplies for John. The impression I always got, if even from a distance, was that John was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off of his back if it meant helping out someone in need. I will always remember him as a sweet soul, who, with (what I always thought was a delightful & endearing) Iranian accent granted me permission to live in a home that I loved, and make some wonderful memories in with my family. I am forever grateful to have known John, even as little as we did. I guess you just never know how even the smallest kindness can impact others in big, meaningful ways. And he certainly left that impression on my husband and I.
Our thoughts & prayers are with John's family & friends, and particularly with his grandchildren, who he so evidently loved and cared immensely for. May you find peace & comfort in this difficult time.

John; you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I did not know your dad but he sounds like a wonderful person. He is no longer suffering. He is at peace. You were lucky to have him in your life as long as you did. Love; Jackie
