LUNDY, EVELYN MEYER LUICK Evelyn Lundy, a resident of San Diego since 1941 and native of Keystone, Iowa, died peacefully at St. Paul's Health Care Center on December 2, 2010, from complications of Parkinson's Disease. Evelyn was born to William and Minnie K. Meyer on January 22, 1918 at Keystone, Iowa. She was baptized at St John's Lutheran Church in Keystone, Iowa, and confirmed at Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of Harrold, South Dakota. Evelyn attended elementary and high school in Iowa and South Dakota. She graduated from Pierre High School in Pierre, South Dakota in 1935 and went on to Black Hills Teacher's College in Spearfish, South Dakota. Evelyn began her teaching career in 1937 at a one- room rural school in Clear Lake, South Dakota with eight students. Evelyn moved to San Di ego in the early 1940s where she met and married Emmanuel "Duke" Luick in 1943. Evelyn and Duke had two children, James Wi1liam Luick, born in 1946 and Dorothy Jean Luick, born in 1950. Dorothy Jean died in 1951 and a few short years later in 1958, Duke also passed away from a heart attack. During these early years in San Diego, Evelyn taught school in Lemon Grove, completed her educational requirements for a B.A. degree at San Diego State College and secured a full-time teaching assignment at Audubon Elementary School in San Diego. During the time that Evelyn taught at Audubon, she met and married Philip H. Lundy in 1962. Evelyn went on to teach at O'Farrell Jr. High until her retirement in 1972. After retiring from the educational profession, Evelyn's energy and enthusiasm carried her into a successful second career in the field of insurance and investment securities. She and her husband formed their own company, Lundy & Associates, at which they both worked until their retirement in 1996. Evelyn is survived by her son, James W. Luick (Victoria) of Palm Desert, CA; her husband, Philip Lundy of San Diego, CA; nephew, Bill DeHope (Frances) of Pleasanton, CA; niece, Kathy Wright of La Mesa, CA; four devoted grand-nieces and nephews, and one great-grandnephew. I worked with Mrs. Lundy at O'Farrell Junior High School as her T.A. for three years in the late sixties. She may not have known it, but she was a wonderful mentor to me. I watched her teaching techniques and the ways she interacted with students, and later copied them. I went on to a successful 35-year teaching career. She was always wonderful to me, and I admired her greatly.

My Auntie was an amazing woman! She inspired me to begin my own business, and gave me such a wonderful role model! She was my mentor! In life, and in business! She and her sister Dorothy were so instrumental in making me who I am today. While I will miss her smile and quick wit and personality, I know she is in a better place and for that I am grateful!

Twenty five years ago my partner and I had the good fortune to become next door neighbors with Evelyn and Phil, Shortly after moving in they invited us over for cocktails and we got to know them. Later that evening my partner remarked "the Lundy's are really class acts" .

Over the years we came to know Evelyn as a devoted and loving wife, mother, neighbor, astute business person and friend to many people.

We wish peace and comfort to Phil, Jim, Evelyn's family and her many friends.

There is no doubt that Evelyn's life was extended by the wonderful care she received from her devoted family and health aides that assisted her at St. Paul's Health Care.

To us Evelyn will always be a very class act.
