Avon Jendro Obituary

JENDRO,
Avon Marlene

Avon Marlene (Balfany) Jendro of Otis Orchards, WA died May 6, 2011 at the age of 73 surrounded by her friends and family.
Avon was born March 9, 1938 in Foreston, MN to Fred and Marie Balfany. She attended and graduated from Robinsdale Senior High School. Avon followed her sister Mel and husband Don to Wichita, KS for three years before settling down in 1974 in Spokane with her three children. Avon had a passion for work, she worked at Red Lion Motel as banquet manager for 20 years and to follow Good Samaritan Society as cook for the last 22 years. Avon developed a family at her work place and was known as the kitchen mother. After work hours she would bake until the late hours of the night for bake sales to help raise funds for friends in need and work place events.
Avon enjoyed her family and her dogs, always offering a helping hand in any way she could to make someone's day bright. Making someone their favorite cookies or pie was her way to cheer anyone up.
Avon is preceded in death brothers/sister Mel and Don Grinsted, Bud and Lois Balfany, Loren Balfany, Sharon and Ray Orstead, Arvilla and Bill Graen.
She is survived by children, Tammy Thompson, Alan and Gloria Jendro, Richard Jendro; grandchildren, Jamie Jendro, Secrett Thompson, Joey Jendro, Michael Thompson, Heather Gilman, Richard Jendro, Brandon Jendro and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Good Samaritan Society May 11, 2011 at 2pm

Avon was my next closest sister during our growing up years and school years in Minnesota. We had only rare visits for many years after leaving the state, it was almost like we had lost one another already back then. We kept telephone communications going at least, and I will miss those now. I am happy to have been able to be in Spokane with her family this week - thanks for your hospitality - - - Sharon Orstad (Wayne, Okla.)
