Thomas Shore Obituary

July 17, 1943 - November 16, 2012 Our father, Tom Shore Sr., of Spokane, Washington died peacefully on November 16, 2012 in the loving arms of his wife, Donna. He was 69 years-old and is survived by his mother, Dorothy, his wife of 48-years, Donna, his three children, Tom, Lorie, Mik and seven grandchildren. Dad was a mischievous ring-leader of fun throughout his life. - He was a champion speed skater, raced and ruined his parent's cars, went through Marine boot camp with the Everly Brothers, loved working nights as a switchman with his best friend, Roger, at the BNSF Railroad, fiercely hunted the elusive lunker bass, launched hot air balloons made of balsa wood and dry cleaning bags, drank cases of beer with his fishing buddies in younger years, played pinball late at night with his kids, liked to take the 'grey dotted line' shortcuts on the map, made hundreds of trips to the dump in Big Red, his 1949 3/4-ton Chevy dump truck which he later turned into a 'show truck', remembered well his boyhood dog - Putzo, but loved cats, was an unstoppable organizing, coaching and refereeing force for youth soccer in Spokane, renovated a 14-seat - 1963 Pontiac Airport Limo for one of his soccer teams(aka 'the slimo'), generally found a magical way to make fun the everyday things that we all tolerate, and had the incredibly good luck to spend his time here with the love of his life, our mother, Donna. Dad showed compassion and kindness to all he met in his travels through life. He was a humanist that lived his faith through service, and gave us all a living example of how to serve the community while loving and caring for his own family. His ever-growing legacy lives on in the ripple of kindnesses, both big and small, that touched an innumerably long list of people. Your work here is done Dad. Rest in Peace. For those who knew him and would like to attend, Dad's memorial is Saturday, December 8th in Spokane, Washington, 2:00 pm at Unity Church on the South Hill. Whether you can attend or not, you can honor our father by loving life and making the world a better place by performing random acts of kindness, small and large, for the people around you.

I met Tom on the RR in '67. We were new switchman & not with full time work so we partnered as 2 handyman doing odd jobs & became good friends. I learned a lot from Tom, & had lots of fun in ol' red truck. We were regulars at Dick's. We each owned apts right next to each other, & had our mothers manage them. So we often saw & supported each other. Tom was always there when I needed help with something. Barby & I send our condolences to all the family.

Met Tom after moving over here in 1967 while working for Great Northern. Liked him at first and liked him ever since. A truly fantastic man. Still remember that old beat up hat he wore at work.
